Good Morning,
I have found doing research that George Hensley first seen serpents being taken up during an outside Church service near Cleveland, Tennessee in 1910.
Also that around 1908 during the dedication of a Church of God in Owl Hollow, Tennessee that A. J. Tomlinson had been asked to attend the ceremony for the dedication of the Church. Rev. Tomlinson could not attend and sent his 16 year old son Homer Tomlinson.
It was during this dedication that George Went Hensley went to the alter and was saved.
In 1912 Rev. A. J. Tomlinson asked George Hensley to become a Minister in the Church of God and Mr. Hensley accepted.
In 1918 Rev. Hensley established the East Chattanooga Church of God.
I know that Rev. Hensley first wife's name was Amanda-but cannot find her maiden name.
I would appreciate any help with finding Amanda Hensley's maiden name and location of her birth.
Thank you,
Ramona

A good source of information on Amanda Wininger Hensley, George Hensley's first wife, is "Serpent Handling Believers", Univ. of TN Press. I believe the author is Burton. Amanda was my grandfather's sister. We have some geneological information if you are interested.

Elizabeth, who was your grandfather? Amanda was my grandmother. I am Linda Hensley, I would love to know more about my grandmothers side of the family. I know a lot about George's side. My email address if KimandLin@bellsouth.net. I can't think who your grandfather was, he had to be a Wininger.
