GenSmarts?

I recently purchased the GenSmarts program but I'm a bit confused to what it actually does. When I try and get it to look through ancestry.com since I have an account, it keeps taking me to free websites.

I'm also not finding it that useful in finding documents. Any suggestions on what I could be doing wrong?

Have you downloaded and read the manual? Also, just browsing through the help page on the website, you'll find your exact question and the answer about Ancestry.com

The program checks the genealogy file (ftw or whatever) you select for missing dates, places, etc. If you hi-lite a line in the "to do" box, the lower box describes what it is you are missing and give suggestions as to where you can find that information. I like being able to see which ancestors are missing source information and given suggestions as to where to look.

Hi There Jennifer,
Have you found GenSmarts to be any good? I want to buy Family Tree Maker and wonder if I should bother buying it with GenSmarts bundled in for free. I'd also like to get a free Ancestry subscription with FTM but I don't think it and GenSmarts are bundled with FTM together. Basically i think I have to choose between FTM+GenSmarts or FTM +Free Subscription.

Take the subscription...............it is worth more.

I have Gensmart and it has everything in it I added to my FTM software and it has it's way which it thinks it is easier, for you to look who or what you may want to change from the original info you put into FTM.
