Hi!
Yep, it's a mystery. Not quite sure if you're wanting to go forward or back, but Hamilton's sons were William and Gilbert (Abeel). On Hamilton's death certificate it states his father as James Cole...guess he was illegitimate? His mother, Betsey (Elisabeth Abeel) is buried at Maltaville cemetery. My guess is she was the daughter of Cornelius Abeel and Susanna VanSchoonhoven Abeel, since her property was on their original land. Please email with any info you might have!

Tracy - Thanks!!

Helping Fern work on this - we were stuck going backward, didn't have dad's name. Fern's mother's maiden name was Abeel.

We live in the Malta area and discovered an Abeel cemetary in Round Lake, on land now owned as Sweeney's Farm, which might be where Cornelius is buried.

I'll bet I can help...yes, Cornelius is buried in the Abeel cemetery. It's behind Sweeney's, actually on land owned by a Mr. Kokinda. We've been on it too. Mr. Kokinda told us that back in the 40's and 50's he used to have to "run people off" the cemetery, because they were stealing the slate headstones to make walkways and fireplaces. I was only able to find Mary Abeel's headstone when we were there a few years ago. I have a list of all the names buried in the cemetery, if you're interested. Chloe and Hamilton are buried at Dunning St. Cem.

Tell me Fern's Dad's name, and I hope I can help you close the link.

We've been to the cemetary too - found 3 stones: Cornelius (dad), Mary, and Sarah Ostrander. Have pics too.

Have traced Abeel's from Florence Abeel back to Hamilton already. Made a tenative connection between Elisabeth and the kids of Naning and Rosetta Ann, who is the son of Cornelius and Susannah.

Should probably try to pool info to get better history. What line are you from?

Actually, I'm an Abeel by marriage, but have somehow become the family historian, tracing the lineage all the way back to Stoffel Janse Abeel in the 1600's. My husband's (Scott) father was William Abeel, son of Willam, son of William, son of Hamilton, son of Elisabeth.
Betsey's headstone is lying on the ground just off the pull out (drive) at Maltaville cemetery. I always thought she was the daughter of Cornelius and Susanna, particularly since she inherited that land from Susanna Van Schoonhoven Abeel (Saratoga County deeds).
I'd love to pursue this with you further, and maybe we could become "partners in crime"! Our email is abeel@austin.rr.com

My husband (Faron) and his sister (Fern) are Flinton's, but their mother (Florence) was an Abeel, daughter of Harmon, son of Gilbert, son of Hamilton, son of Elisabeth.

So we have the lines of both of Hamilton's sons.

I'll pull together what Fern and I have and e-mail it to you. My email is jflinton@earthlink.net.

I'm looking for anyone related to William J Abeel, who lived in Saratoga Springs, died in 1952. Wife's name was Anna Little. He had two daughters, Lois and Georgianna. Any help would be appreciated. He was born around 1897 in Saratoga County.
