My father was George J.C. Failing of Garber Oklahoma, later, Enid, Oklahoma. His father was George E Failing of Mendota, Illinois, later Tulsa, Garber, Enid, who pioneered the portable rotary oil/water drilling rig, built international business, sold out in 1957 to Westinghouse Corp. I am looking for who came before George in Mendota. Also, does our name exist in Europe? Or did it get changed at Ellis Island like so many. Was it German Fehling, or Irish O'Faelin, or....? There is much colorful history of the Failings I would be glad to share, find our common ancestor. E-mail me. Best wishes.

Have a George E. FAILING who lived in NE

My great grandfather George Failing lived in Mendota Illinois,
then in later years Tulsa Oklahoma, and also San Diego California. His son, George E. Failing, lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Garber OK, and finally Enid Ok. He was the inventor and manufacturer of portable rotary drilling rigs for oil
and water well drilling. My father, George JC Failing invented the fluted traveling kelly and hydraulic systems for the rigs.
My great grandfather invented the first bottling machine in the world, including using cork in the caps, and sold it to Coca-Cola in the early 1900's. I am looking for information re: George Failing of Mendota, Illinois, and prior. There are some Failings in Baker, California, where they had a restaurant.

Research has shown me that Failing derived from Fehling. The Fehling's originated in Prussia(predating Germany), a region known as Palatine. There were many distinguished doctors in this family. I have also noted that there were some inventions, inventors bearing the name Fehling. This genetic trait runs in the family lines Failing and Fehling. I believe these lines go to upstate New York and began in the late 1600's and through the 1700's. Looking for a thread from Illinois to New York.

My husband is one of the Mohawk Valley, New York state Failings. His family came here from Palatinate, Germany in the 1600's through Queen Anne. Fehling is only one of the spellings of Failing/Fehling...including being spelled with a ph.
