Norma, I don't have much on Martin Trantham, other than the name. I do know he married Ann Shaddock and had one child, Joseph C. Trantham. Joseph C. Trantham married Sarah Michaels about 1820 and the union produced six children, including Jeptha Trantham through whom my family traces its lineage. Jeptha Trantham was fathered at least three families through Mary Wright, Sarah Hilton, and ? Ingrall. These unions produced at least 22 and possibly as many as 34 children.
He fought on both sides during the civil war, switching his allegiances with turning tides. I do know at the Battle of Chickamauga in Tennesee, he and his son, Merritt Trantham fought on different sides. Merritt Trantham was captured, shipped to an internment center in Michigan from which he was parolled upon his pledge to join the Union Army in the Indian Wars in the West for an unspecified number of years. Merritt was born in 1846 and died in 1936 in Clyde, NC (Haywood Co.) Merritt Trantham married Margaret "Mag" Jarrett, who died in Clyde, NC. They had ten children. I am descended through their son, Wiley Lane Trantham, born Aug. 5 1890 in Hurricaine Creek, NC. (Haywood Co.) and died Aug. 13, 1930 in Meadow Fork, NC (Madison Co.). On Oct. 20, 1911 he married Willie Lee Askew (Willie) (Mawie) in Meadow Fork, NC (Madison, Co.) I knew my Great Grandmother Mawie who died when I was eighteen years old. Wiley was shot and killed by Sheriff Dewey Foster of Hot Springs, NC before my father was born. Wiley and Mawie had five children including my grandfather, Charles Vernon Trantham. Mawie lived with him and his wife Irene Kirkpatrick Trantham on Meadow Fork, NC. My grandmother, Irene Trantham is still living.
Charles Vernon Trantham was born May 17, 1914 in Meadow Fork, NC (Madison Co.) He married Rachael Irene Kirkpatrick on Dec. 30, 1935 in Newport, Tenn. (Cocke Co.) He died Jan. 11, 1988 in Meadow Fork, NC (Madison). Vernon Irene Trantham had two children, My father, Rodney Lane Trantham, and Doris Trantham. Rodney Lane Trantham was born Dec. 25, 1936 in Meadow Fork, NC (Madison). He married Betty Irene Parker Trantham in Greeneville, SC on Aug. 18, 1955. Both still live on Meadow Fork, NC (Madison Co.) today. My full name is Jerry Lane Trantham. I am the eldest of three children. My brothers are Charles Gordon Trantham and Thomas Lee Trantham. I'm sure this is more information than you counted on, but if you want more I can put you in touch with my father who is researching the genealogy. Jerry

Thanks Jerry, I have four Martin Tranthams in my line and it get real confusing. I go back another Martin from Martin and Ann, he is Martin Jr. married to Amelia Nicholinson and his son Levi was my gggrandfather. So I just go a different direction from your line. So I have two more Martins, one born about 1710 in England and married to Elizabeth Eppinger and his father Martin born about 1690 and died 1769. This is as much information that I have. Thanks for your line and its very interesting with all of the details of their lives. I knew there wer alot of Tranthams in Tennessee so they are from your line.
Thanks again and if we find anything helpful for each other we will get back intouch.
