long shot but relatives lived Germany in 1914

Johann F. Reck (my great grandfather) left Bremen, Germany and arrived New York City, USA on March 22, 1875. Around 1911/12 he along with most of his family moved to Newark, Ohio, USA. When he died on Feb. 27th 1914 a newspaper article in the Newark Advocate mentioned he had a brother and sister in Germany. Since the departure records of Bremen for that time no longer exist I have no idea where in Germany he came from. Are his relatives still in Germany? Are you reading this and thinking maybe it's the Johann you've been looking for too?

phonebook for Germany says:
2218 Treffer zu „Reck“ im Verzeichnis von Das Telefonbuch
(davon 2000 angezeigt)
2218 Results for "Reck" in the directory of the phone book
(which appears 2000)
http://www.dastelefonbuch.de/

so you would really need a placename.....

I agree that I "really need a placename" but that is the problem. I don't have one. I only just learnt that he had a brother and sister in Germany in 1914. I wish the newspaper article had mention their names.

There are no living relatives that I am aware of who might have known or who have any papers around that timeframe saved from the family. A letter from his sibling with a return address would be very nice!

Thanks for the information.

I have obtained the naturalization records of Johann Frederick Reck and he states that he was born in Baden, Germany (not Baden-Baden). Baden is about 35 kilometers southeast of Brenmen between Achim and Speckenholz. He was born in 1855. Not sure what faith the family was in Baden back then but in Newark, Ohio, USA it appears he was connected to the Lutheran faith. Perhaps there is a similar church with birth records for that time frame in Baden.

Brenmen? you mean Bremen?
i cannot find a Baden "between" Achim and Speckenholz:
http://maps.google.at/maps?hl=de&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r...
i found Baden is the biggest district of Achim now:
Ortsteile:
Achim
Baden
Badenermoor
Bierden
Borstel
Uesen
Uphusen
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Achim_%28Landkreis_Verden%29
Baden: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baden_%28Achim%29

the evang.luth.church in Achim - i´m not a specialist for archives in Germany, maybe you ask them:
http://www.st-laurentius-achim.de/
http://www.st-laurentius-achim.de/index.php?main=3
http://wiki-de.genealogy.net/Achim_%28bei_Bremen%29#Kirchlic...

have looked more and found now this evang.luth.archives in Niedersachsen:
http://wiki-de.genealogy.net/Niedersachsen#Kirchliche_Archiv...
my guess was for Hannover looking on map:
http://www.landeskirchlichesarchiv-hannover.de/
they write on site to go in contact with "Lesestelle", as they do not have directly the church-books.
http://www.landeskirchlichesarchiv-hannover.de/familienforsc...
i see you have to take for area Verden the Kirchenbuchamt/churchbook-office Rotenburg:
http://www.landeskirchlichesarchiv-hannover.de/familienforsc...
now you have the church in Achim and this archive for asking.
hope this helps!
