Surnames: Ersepka, Ersepka, Erspeke
Hello,
I need help finding the ancestors of my family member. I am stuck and have been searching for his parents for some months now, and I can't find anything. Here is the information I have:

William/Wilhelm Constantine Ersepke/Ersepka/Erspeke

D.O.B: May 1863 in Austria (per a federal census.)

D.O.D: Sept 11, 1933 San Fran, California (70 years old)

Married: Theresia Barbara Englert Oct. 2, 1900, had 7 children.

Arrived in New York from Hamburg (Germany?) on July 23, 1896. Naturalized: Sept. 21, 1897.

Lived in:
1900/1920: Louisville, KY
1910 (not sure how long before and after): San Fran, Cali

Looks like he made one trip back to Germany and returning in New York on: Aug 17, 1925.

This is what I know, and I can't find out the names of his parents. I even upgraded membership to include international, and that is no help.
I appreciate any help with this.

I’m not related to any member of this family.

1940 is the last available census at this time.

Order his death cert from the proper authority in CAL. Parents names should be listed.

The 1896 ship manifest for William states that he was a native of the USA and his residence was Louisville, Ky.

It appears he must have been in the US prior to 1896. This may be him arriving in 1893 (1910 census states he immigrated in 1893). Unfortunately it doesn't give any information about his parents.

The census also says that his place of birth was Austria Germany, so you may want to check the history of that area at the time of his birth--he may be German rather than Austrian.

Have you tried to get a copy of William's marriage license? It MIGHT indicate his parents' name.

Thank you, I think so too.

No I haven't gotten the marriage record. I believe it costs money, and I don't have it at the moment, perhaps at another time.
Thank you all for helping me.

most things still not online. however, as you posted in your first query, www.familysearch.org has the marriage date and film number so when you get some money you can rent the film--I think 10$ NOW

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F4M7-5W5 gives an outline of what is on the film. no way of knowing if there is anymore, may not have been known/required. however, if the church name is given, there may be a church resord. and u are correct-this can be an expensive hobby - now that it is big business- if your library has a genealogy room, they may have subscriptions that you cannot afford, or don't want .

I got his obituary:

ERSEPKE -- In this city, Sept. 11, 1933, William, beloved husband of Theresia Ersepke, loving father of Mrs. Anna Weedman, Mrs. Verna Andrade, Rudolph, Bernhard, Edward, William and Robert Ersepke and the late Carl Ersepke, and devoted brother of Carl Ersepke, native of Austria, aged 63 years. A member of Applewood Camp No. 696, W.O.W. Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. from the parlors of Suhr & Wieboldt, 1465 Valencia st., near 26th st. Interment Cypress Lawn Memorial Park.

So, Austria is a little more specific than Germany -- a little more help for your search. :)

The fraternal organization W.O.W. = Woodmen of the World. The California Historical Society has records for the branch in which he was a member! See this link: http://www.oac.cdlib.org/findaid/ark:/13030/kt6d5nf6d2/ They MIGHT have something on him, although most of the records are earlier, it sounds like.

Also, definitely try contacting the fraternal organization itself. Looks like it still exists:
http://www.woodmen.org/Members/camps.cfm

I helped someone else whose ancestor was in a different fraternal organization. I contacted them and they had biographical data and a photo that they copied for us. Worth a try! :)

Another possible resource: the funeral home mentioned...
