Hi, I'm interested in your Jesse Simpson line. Do you have his children and was he ever in Kentucky? He might be a part of my brick wall.

Thanks, Debbie

My information, with (mispelled notes) can be found on WorldConnect at Rootsweb. Information has been uploaded at Ancestry too, but not as complete.

From the Gareth L. Simpson Collection
Descendants of Jesse Sr . Simpson
Generation No. 1
1. JESSE SR .1 SIMPSON (JOHN)1,2 was born 12 May 1772 in Prince William Co., VA. U.S.A., and died 20 May 1850 in Knox Co., TN. U.S.A.3. He married MARY GRIFFIN4 22 Dec 1791 in Halifax Co., VA. U.S.A.5, daughter of RICHARD JR. GRIFFIN. She was born 10 Feb 1772 in Pittsylvania Co., VA. U.S.A., and died 20 Aug 1841 in Knox Co., TN. U.S.A.6.

Notes for JESSE SR . SIMPSON:
Jesse and Mary Simpson resided in Spotsylvania Co., VA., near the Halifax county line and near the land, John Simpson (Father) purchased on Runaway Creek. Jesse appears in court records in Henry Co., VA., as late as 1804 but some time afterwards moved westward to Knox Co., TN., settling on the south side of the French Broad River about five miles East of Knoxville, TN., in 1818.
He received a grant of land from the State of Tennessee to which he added other land to become a major land owner.
After Mary's death, Jesse Sr. made his home with Jesse Jr. ultimately deeding him a portion of his farm.
Jesse Sr. and Mary are buried in the old Lebanon Presbyterian Church yard in the "fork" of the rivers, Holston and French Broad across from their home.
A monument to their memory stands in the southeast corner of this cemetery.

Thanks for your quick reply. I'm going to keep this to look over later, but I don't think it fits anywhere. My gggrandfather always went by the name Squire Simpson, with no record of any other name. He was born in NC 1797, (on all of the census) then went through Cumberland, KY, where he married Nancy Murphy. A brief trip to Indiana where my ggrandfather Hiram was born in 1822, then shows up in Fayette county, TN with a Jesse and Joseph. He moved to AR early 1830's where he stayed. Don't really know if he's related to them, but I thought I'd check it out.

Thanks again.
