Two great Shipp resources are:
"Shipp Family Genealogy" by Ralph Shipp and
"Shipp Lineage: a genealogy of William and Hannah McWilliams-Shipp" by Mary Marie Koontz.

Please, does anyone have a copy? I am trying to find these two books. I would suggest to look here for your Shipps.

The Hiram A. Shipp you are looking for is in Fluvanna Co. 1850 he was 40 yrs old. I am looking for info on the father of Lewis J Shipp of Fluvanna Co m.Martha Seay their children were Margarett, Emily, Mary, Nancy, John H, Cornelia, Martha, and Adam (My GGrandfather). If you run across any info on Lewis please post or E-mail me.There are 2 Shipps in Fluvanna Co old enough to be the father of Hiram, they are James and William. Note: The Seay family was one of the first landowners in Fluvanna Co. and they have an interesting history. Look in the Fluvanna Co Historical Socity books and publications. good luck

Hi, I show a Lewis Shipp(age 33) living in household of Sarah Shipp in the 1860 census(husband was William Ship) in Tennessee.
1850 census showed my ancestor John (9) Sterling 8 and two daughters Louisa age 16 and Sarah 12. Husband William in 1850 census was 70 years old(born about 1780) in Virginia apparently died before 1860. You didn't mention the marriage date for your Lewis. The Lewis in 1860 was 33 years old

Per the 1900 Albemarle County census, Martha was born in Nov 1814. She is living in the Rivanna District and is 85. She is widowed. Martha L. Davis is the daughter of Matthew S Davis and Susanna Faris from Buckingham County. I have a great deal of information about this family if you are interested.

I apologize for the delay but I have been deployed overseas. Martha and Hiram had a number of children: Albert Thomas Shipp 1837, Amanda A Shipp 1843, Martha Frances Shipp 1845, Mary Ardelia Shipp 1847, Hiram A Shipp Jr. 1849, Ellis J Shipp 1851, George Mitchell Shipp 1855, and Benjamin I Shipp 1857.
Hiram died between 1870 and 1900 but I haven't pinned it down better than that. Martha Davis Shipp died in Feb 1905 per her tombstone inscription.

When I first started on my family tree, my sister and I both drove out to the old family homestead in Barboursville to meet Vergie in 2004 hoping to get more on our family history as well as maybe some photos to add but was told she wasn't up to it. We left our information being told that when she felt better they would contact us but no one ever contacted us back. Then I read that she had passed on.

I continue to work on my is a work in progress. Would love to have any information to add and would be glad to share anything that I do have on file already that you may not have.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.
