Hello, I am searching for information on my family line of Hortons from the Dutchess Co. NY area. Specificially my g-g-grandfather, Alvah Horton, b. Dec 1816, d. Feb 1896 buried in the Hortontown Community Ground cemetary. Alvah was married to Sarah Wixon (Wixson?) Horton, b. 1824, d. 1866. They had at least 3 children, George, Warren, and Nessiter. Any information on Alvah's family would be appreciated. Thanks, Patty

Laurie, thanks for the info! Looks like the 1865 East Fishkill census was the one for my line: Alvah, age 49, m. Sarah, age 41. My gg-grandfather was George, age 6 in this census. I do have the Old Hortontown Commonground Cemetery listing for these folks also, and an obituary for George B. if interested. I'll look through my records to see about your George and Elizabeth. My email is kallevig@cloudnet.com. Thanks for the help!

Lauri, Do you have any info on Hanna M. Horton,
b.1861, died 1911 in East Fishkill? She was married to
Uriah Wright. Children Harvey, Jennie and
Luckburn. Hannah was my great grandmother.
I would like to learn more about Hannah's family.
Thanks so much, RaeAnn

Hi RaeAnn,

In the index for the 1865 Census for the Town of East Fishkill, dutchess county, new york, I show: HORTEN (note spelling, I believe this to be a transcription error as it's in the middle of a whole list of HORTON's)
Benjamin age 55 owning 800 acres of land
Margaret E. age 48 (9) I think that means 9 kids
Susan M. age 28
Sarah J. age 18
Sylvenus age 15 laborer
Hannah age 5

Could this be your Hannah? this is the only Hannah I show in the 1865 census.

In the 1850 census for the town of East Fishkill, dutchess county, new york I show:
HORTON, Benj. R age 41 farmer
Margret age 34
Emily age 16
Susan age 12
Abby L. age 6
Sylvester age 9/12
No Hannah's listed at all, so it doesn't look like that's a reoccuring family name.

I hope this helps. Let me know if I can share anything else...Laurie

Lauri,

Thanks so much! You are a doll! I am sure that is my Hannah.
You wouldn't have a way to find out Hannah's mothers maiden
name, would you? I think it may have been Bowne, but I'm not sure.
Thanks again, RaeAnn
