I am trying to find the ancestry of my 3rd great grandmother Martha Lane. Martha was born in Lee on December 3, 1794. Also in Lee, she married Samuel Trickey of Portsmouth. Samuel changed the family's last name from Trickey to Milton in 1851. I think Martha was the daughter of John Layn, but I am not certain of that and I have no idea of her mother's name. Can anyone help out? If anyone is interested in Martha, I have an ambrotype of her taken when she was 51 years old.

I am new to this...my GGGF Trueworthy Hill married my GGGM Mary Lane/Layn in Lee NH...I also am not sure her father was John or Edmund Layn...I know I am probably too late but I thought I would try anyway..Mary was born abt 1800..I do know that Trueworthys sister Charlotte married William Layn(son of John H) and his sister Elizabeth married Samuel Layn (son of Edmund)...I hope by now that you have found your info that you needed...thank you

Do you have any proof as to why Samuel changed the Trickey name to Milton? Do you have any photos of Samuel? I am a descendant of Thomas Milton (aka Thomas Trickey). Looking for further information/proof. My ggggrandfather was Franklin A Milton born Maine circa 1840, probable son of Thomas Milton (born NH). Franklin married Ella (nee Warner) from Pennsylvania. I have information on many of their children.

I have no proof of why the name change for Samuel. Several Trickeys changed names at the same time. I have an old photo of Martha but none of Samuel.

Samuel Trickey died in Portsmouth, accidentally hanging himself on a limb when a ladder tipped. The family is buried in Portsmouth.

I don't have my notes in front of me right now, but if you have any additional interest, give me a shout.
