Hi Pam, I'm from Lutesville, MO (Southeast MO) and I've looked through my geneology books for John David but can't seem to come up with it in my family history any place. My information goes back to the early 1800's. Let me know if you've got any others you would like to look for.

Hello Betsy,
Concerning Jacob and Sophia. Jacob was actually born on February 19,1802 in Lincoln County, NC He immigrated to Bollinger County, MO with his widowed mother when he was a young child of approx 8 years. His father was George Lutes(Lutz) who died when Jacob was about 4 or 5 yrs. He is buried just outside Newton, NC Jacob grew up in MO and married Sophie (Lorance) in 1825. They had fifteen children of whom eleven reached adulthood. Jacob contracted Cholera after trying to help travelers that were camped on his farm and died young. Sophie was a very respected woman in the community and lived to be in her nineties.

You also mentioned that you thought that Jacob and Sophie were buried in Stoddard County. That is incorrect. They are buried just outside of what was known as the town of Lutesville (now Marble Hill) in a place called the Deck Cememtery. The cemetery is located behind the local high school and was in very poor condition. My brother and my nephew just this summer have worked to restore it...mainly cutting brush, mowing weeds, and standing up headstones. Jacob and Sophie share a headstone and three of their children are buried next to them.

My brother and I went to NC this last summer to do some research. We found the graves of Jacob's father and grandfather/grandmother. We also found out that Jacob's grandfather known as Johan Jacob was in the battle of Kings Mountain during the Revolution. We found copies of pay vouchers in the state archives from the revolutionary congress to him for service. It seems that probably Johan Jacob was the first to start using the spelling Lutes instead of Lutz.

I also have family tree info going way back in Germany to the 1500's if you would be interested.

Jacob and Sophie are also my 4th Gr Grandfather. My lineage goes:

I would be interested to know where you fit in to this.....cousin :)

Sorry, I'm from Lutesville and the only John Lutes that I know of died young and only had three children and none of them were the ones you mentioned. If you would possibly know John's father's name or his wife's name, maybe I could help you.
