Anyone know of FRED ROTE living long enough in Erie, PA to father two sons, Leon, born in 1896 and Nello Rote? Somethime later they all moved to Sycamor, Illinois.

Fred would have been born sometime in the mid 1860s to later 1870s most likely. Family 'heresay' says of french descent, but I'm beginning to doubt this with a name like "Fred," a more common German name for "Fredrick."

Have an old picture of "Fred" (Fredrick?) Rote with his wife, both my great grandparents, standing next to an old car (model T) in the 1930s from a newspaper account of their then unsually long road trip from Illinois up thru PA to upstate NY to visit my grand father Leon and then on thru Canada and back.

I won't speak "too poorly" of my grandfather, Leon Rote here, and how he had a 'hand' in his wife's, my grandmother's death while simultaneously leaving 4 offspring, 2 sons and 2 daughters, one my mother, literally homeless, but he did supposedly accomplish some amazing things during his life. Attended a part of the University of Chicago achieving a BS in Aeronautical Engineering, an accomplishment in and of itself in those days unlike today when everyone seemingly has at least a BS or BA. Went on as a civilian test pilot for the Air Force and "supposedly" designing some of the first jet instrument panels. Ended up in Grand Rapids designing auto instrument panels for Oldsmobile where he died....

So if anyone has some info on Fred(Fredrick?)Rote, most "likely" of the PA Rotes since fathering children in Erie in the 1890s, do let me know via email..
Thx much.

Hi- My gr- grandfather was Fred A. Rote from SYcamor, Illinois. He was born 1-8-1878. He married Jennie J. Plucker and they had 3 children. Are we talking about the same Rote family?

I'm not really sure. I don't have a lot of information on the Rote family. My great-grandfathers name was Fred A. Rote; b. 1-8-1878. he married Jennie (Plucker) Rote in 8-26-1897, they had 3 children. And they lived in Sycamore, Illinois.

I've done a little work in the Census and it appears that Frederick Arthur Rote was born in Franklin, DeKalb, IL and married Jennie J. Plucker from Marion, Ogle, IL. His parents appear to be Frank (1870 Census shows Francis) and Catherine (?) Rote, born in PA and Canada, and he had at least 6 siblings. Jennie's parents seem to be Wesley and Angelina PLUCKER (I think he is the PLUNKETT that shows up in the 1870 Census) and in 1880 she was the only issue.
Fred and Jennie then show up in the 1910 Census in Denver, Kingsbury, SD with 2 children, Vesta and Katie.
I haven't gone any further as I'm reasonably certain that this Rote family doesn't connect to mine out of NY.
Hope your research goes well.

I have 2 Fred Rotes in Lancaster, PA. The father, John Frederick Rote, b. 1816 d. 1886 in Lancaster and went by the name Frederick. His son, Frederick A. Rote, b. 1852, was living "at home" in 1870 and was working as a photographer. I don't know what happened to him after that. If you wish to pursue this family, I have more info.

I am also a Rote with ancestors out of New York (Columbia County). Can you share with me some of your Rote family names? My ggg Grandfather was Frederic(k)Rote b.New York June 20,1793 m. Elizabeth (Betsy) Smith who was born Sept.12, 1800.
She is buried at Dutch Reformed Church Cemetary, Livingston, Columbia Co. NY. He is buried at Willow Glen Cemetary, Dryden, Tompkins Co. NY.
They had 10 children: Leonard, Catherine, Laney,Allen,Peter, Mary, Elizabeth, Sarah Ann, Jane and Edward.
I've also been trying to see if there is a link between Jacob Rote , or Henry Rote and my Frederick Rote (? brothers) of Columbia Co.
