I am looking for info on Capt. Demeer's Independent
Co. That was stationed at Ft. Cumberland at the time of
Braddock's defeat. Where did they go afterwards?
In the orderly records of Ft. Cumb. (5/27/1755) is this: George
Darty of Capt. Demeers Ind. Co. to recieve 200 lashes for desertion. I believe the honorable Mr. Darty to be my ancestor

James I looked over my index's but to no luck. I don't think I would find anything as my index's start's at 1789 but I took a look any way. I also have a set of the American Heritage. They have the story on Barddock's Defeat but said not hing on the names you were looking. Sorry I couldn't be more help to you.
Dennis.

Nina,

Walkinshaw's _Annals of Southwestern Pennsylvania_ may have some information for you. It is searchable and there are some rosters there.

The published Pennsylvania Archives, Colonial Series, may also have something useful, the gate way is here:

The George Washington Papers in the Library of Congress have some items on this period, but almost entirely on Virginians.

Good hunting,
Jade

There are no complete rosters for 'Braddock's Defeat'.

This Message Board concerns the French and Indian Wars 1750s-1768. The Indian Wars of the 1790s and later are under Military / United States. Posts concerning such conflicts after the Revolutionary War should be posted there, not on this board.

Good hunting,
Jade

James,

The comment regarding timing (wrong war series) and boards was directed to the irrelevant response to your query, not to your (correctly placed) inquiry.

The recent rearrangement of these message boards makes it very hard to figure out what is responding to what, I am sorry to say.

It is also too bad that some have so little concept of American history that Civil War queries are placed on boards for the Revolutionary War, and material relating to 1790-1870 is placed both on French & Indian War boards and Revolutionary War boards. The various Boards' administrators often don't seem to be paying attention.

I am sorry you thought that the comment was responding to your post.

Good hunting,
Jade
