Does anyone have any information about the Childrens Home Society in Oakland CA. This is where the baby we are helping was adopted from June 14 1944. Has anyone had any luck getting birth records from Alameda Co CA? We have non identifying info from the childrens home. Both adopted parents are deceased and we have their death certificates but how do we go about getting actual birth information. It is needed for health reasons as well as personal information. Thank you, Phyllis pdc_1@charter.net

Thank you for your reply. Yes we have the Hospital and the doctors name. The real and the 'fake' one but still cant find Syble Cook (Mary Cooks birth mother). It is possible she didnt use her right name or give true information but we are still trying. Phyllis

My mother was adopted out of Childrens Home Society Oakland, CA in 1947. We have not had success, however, we have her non identifying information. My mom was told that there was some sort of fire where records were stored. (?) I'm not sure how accurate that is. The non ID information is so detailed and lengthy, you can almost imagine what the names would be! We were told to file through the courts to see if records can be opened. We have not found the time to do this...yet. But we planned to within the next year. If we have any success, I will let you know.
Good luck in your search! Lea

My mother was born in Oakland in 1910, Unable to find any record for her birth, no name either, there was a article in the Oakland Tribune about a infant girl left on the door step of the childrens home society. around that time. April 12, or 13, 1910. The article ran daily news about the infant girl. any information as to who adopted this child? the adoptive parents of my mother were anna May Holden and John Holden. They Legally adopted the child in 1915, by Judge Goshby in San Jose, listed on the adoption papers was listed as abandoned. no other information has ever been found. No birth certificate either.
