I can trace my mother's family back to James
Melvin and Catherine Iseley One of their sons
John Wesley Melvin and family migrated to Missouri in mid 1850's. Then on to Nebraska and finally a son moved up into Alberta 1901.
What we're trying to find is family further back in time if possible.

Hi,
I too am working on the James Melvin, Catherine Isley line. I wonder if you have found any information on the ancestors of John, the father of James?

My James Melvin (gg grandfather) was a son of James and Catherine Isley Melvin. The father of James Melvin 1784 was John Melvin 1760.
My James and Sarah Palmer Melvin moved from NC to MO between 1850 and 1860 and are in the 1860 census. In the 1880 census they are in Laclede Co MO. They are buried there.

James MELVIN was born ABT 1815 in Alamance County, North Carolina, and died 16 JUN 1888 in Union, Laclede County, Missouri. He was buried in Bear Thicket Cemetery, Laclede County, Missouri. He married Sally PALMER AFT 1840 in North Carolina. She was born 10 MAR 1818 in Alamance County, North Carolina, and died 13 DEC 1896 in Union, Laclede County, Missouri. She was buried in Bear Thicket Cemetery, Laclede County, Missouri.
I would be glad to exchange information, I guess I am your cousin, ..... Bev Kendall

Hello,
Where was James Melvin 1784 and father John Melvin 1760 born?
I'm looking for the parents of James Melvin who married Caty Cannon in Henry county, Va.
There's probably no connection but you never know.

Thanks,
Dot )Melvin) Morris

Hi, I don't suppose you would know if John Melvin had any brothers and what their names were?

My James Melvin who married Caty Cannon in 1795 in Virginia was born about 1770. They were later in Stokes county, NC where my
2rd greatgrandpa James C. was born in 1818. They then moved to Lawrence county, Indiana around 1830 minus the older James. I don't know what happen to him. Thats where they ( my greatgrandparents) stayed up until 1890 when they moved to Texas.

Thanks for your info,
Dot
