Anna Maria GERLACH (b. 1688) m. Andreas FINCK

This is in reply to Shirley FARRELL’s (shirleygrantfarrel@sbcglobal.net) May 14, 2007, posting to the RootsWeb GERLACH mailing list titled “My Finck/Fink/Gerlag/Gerlach/Kummer Info,” located at the following site:
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/GERLACH/2007-05/1179163...

In that posting you state that “John Christian Garlock, born 02 May 1672 in Heidelberg, Mannh, Baden, Germany,” and his wife “Anna Maria” had a daughter Anna Maria GERLACH, b. “01 Jan 1688 in West Camp, NY,” who m. Andreas FINCK, b. “1675 in Cassel, Hessen, Germany; died 1744 in Stone Arabia, Montgomery, Ny.” You also provide information about some of their descendants.

I am very much interested in this information as it is information that I have not previously seen. What is your source for Anna Maria GERLACH being a daughter of Johann Christian GERLACH/GARLOCK/CARLOCK?

Also, see my Apr. 12, 2006, posting to the RootsWeb GERLACH Message Board, titled “Gerlach Immigrants to America, early 1700s,” located at the following site, in which I quote from some pages of the book “History of the Carlock Family,” 1929, by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, regarding the migration of the three brothers, Coenraad/Conrad GERLACH/GERLAG/CARLOCK, Johann Christian GERLACH/GARLOCK/CARLOCK, and David GERLACH/CARLOCK (my ancestor) to America in the early 1700s:
http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.gerlach/213.1/mb.ashx

If Anna Maria GERLACH who m. Andreas FINCK was indeed a daughter of Johann Christian GERLACH/GARLOCK/CARLOCK, and was indeed born in 1688, it would have been in Europe, not New York. Johann Christian GERLACH/GARLOCK/CARLOCK is believed to have migrated to America around 1709.

GARLOCK-GARLICK DNA Study

Posted: 27 Sep 2007 2:33AM GMT
Classification: Query
Surnames: CARLOCK, GARLICK, GARLOCK, GERLACH, GERLOCH
The following postings appeared on the RootsWeb GARLICK and GARLOCK lists today. Some researchers believe that Stephen GARLICK (b. 1750 - 1756; d. Sept. 1826) of Bedford, Bedford Co., PA, could be the same individual as the Stephen CARLOCK (s/o John "Hans" Christian GARLOCK, Johann Christian GERLACH/GARLOCK/CARLOCK, Hans Peter GERLOCH/GERLACH) who appears on page 419 of the book "History of the Carlock Family," by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929. So far researchers have not been able to find conclusive evidence one way or the other. Since records for Stephen GARLICK can also be found in New Jersey, there is also a possibility that Stephen could instead be descended from the immigrant Johann Christian GERLACH/GARLOCK/CARLOCK's brother Coenraad/Conrad GERLACH/GERLAG/CARLOCK of Bergen Co., NJ.

If any direct male descendants of the above-mentioned families (i.e., carrying the surnames GERLACH, GARLOCK, GARLICK, CARLOCK, or variations thereof) would be interested in participating in this or a similar DNA study, please reply to the Message Board postings at the following sites:

Hello - are there any DNA studies going on that are attempting to connect Stephen Garlick of Bedford Co., PA to Johann Christian Garlock?

Is anyone interested in proving once and for all if there is any relationship?

Is anyone doing and genetic testing on decedents of John/Johann Christian Garlock? Several members of my Garlick family claim to be descendants of John, but no evidence seems to exist to connect the Garlicks to the Garlocks.

If no testing is currently being done, is there any interest in such studies?

Descendants of GERLACH brothers who migrated to America in early 1700s

I have been contacted by a direct descendant of my immigrant ancestor, David GERLACH/CARLOCK (1674 - 1763), who has had the Y chromosome DNA test done through Ancestry.com and would like to know if any other male descendants of Coenraad/Conrad GERLACH/GERLAG/CARLOCK (1660 - ca. 1772), or his brothers Johann Christian GERLACH/GARLOCK/CARLOCK (1669 - 1764) and David GERLACH/CARLOCK (1674 - 1763) have also had the same test done so that a comparison can be done. If you have already had this test done or would be interested in doing so, please contact Reed at the following address:
adastracat@comcast.net

The following report which appears on my home page shows how this German GERLACH/GERLOCH family has branched into the American GARLOCK, CARLOCK, CARELOCK, CEARLOCK, and CARLOUGH families, as well as two branches of the CURLOCK family:
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/t/i/l/Susan-E-Til...

A similar study on my PYLE line has been very fruitful, and, in fact, has provided one of the puzzle pieces to help me finally find the connection that I had been working on for 30 years.
