While your Blacks were still in Jura long after mine had gone, there is probably a common ancestor. (How many Black families could have been on Jura?)

I can't give you any additional info on your family but can reccommend two good books:

1) "From A Hollow On The Hill",by Nancy Black (ISBN 0-9522830-1-8)

2)"Jura, Island Of Deer", by Peter Youngson (ISBN 1-84158-136-4)

Both are filled with great background information and some good generalized genealogical data. the first has some very specific genealogical data as well.

good luck in your search,
Leila M

We in the family had always been told it was Catherine Black, but I am having difficullty identifying her and her parents.. Thanks again. Ellen Moody

Mayberry / Logan - early PA marriages

I cannot help you regarding your BLACK surname, but am wondering if by any chance, you have any Mayberry ancestors that were in Pennsylvania by the late 1700's.

I have one John Mayberry who was in Pennsylvania, USA, at least by 1790. One of his children married a woman with the surname BLACK, and another with the WALKER maiden name.

Other children were married to LOGAN people.

Our Mayberrys were still in England in the 1790's and our Blacks in North Carolina. Doesn't seem as though we connect either way. Sorry!!

Glad to hear from you.

I am interested in any information which will identify Malcolm BLACK (b.Abt 1690-,Jurra,Scotland;d.Aft 1740-NC)and his wife, Catharine MCARTHUR (b.Abt 1694-Scotland)

I'm also interested in identifying their son, Archibald BLACK (b.Abt 1725-,Jura,Scot;d.1792- ,Cumberland,NC)and his wife, Christian (d.Aft 1792)

I would dearly love to identify the wife of Malcolm BLACK (b.ca 1756-65 Cumberland co,NC). She is supposed to be Sarah RAY (b.1766 NC) whom he married 12 Nov 1791.

It would also be interesting to positively document their arrival date in NC.

Thank you for your interest and any additional information you may have.

Leila
