How would you be related to the Lastiques? My grandfather was Felix and my mother was Dorothy Lastique. I know that we had counsins there and many family members. Since both my mother and my grandfather are dead, we have lost contact with those still in Trinidad.

Well, I grew up in Trinidad and I do have some Lastique linage in my family. My grand mother got married to Charlie Lastique and had several kids and grand kids. The primary Lastique family lives Trinidad still. Their father was Joey lastique. Our family has lots of info from my grand fathers name and family members entering the US at Ellis Island to politics in Trinidad. I have been researching briefly the Lastique linage all the way back to France-interesting, also some family mmembers are in New Jersey.

I believe that my grandfather's brother was Charles Lastique. I was always told that my grandfather was born in India and that his father was from France. His name was Felix Albert. He lived in Trinidad and identified as West Indian, as did my mother, his daughter, Dorothy Agatha. She came to the US in 1930. I know I have cousins still in Trinidad. I had a cousin named Leticia. She and I corresponded for awhile when we were young teens, but then lost contact with one another. Her father was Ronald. Do any of these names have any meaning to you?

What would be the chance that we are related? I don't know a Lastique that is not related. It is not a common name. Maybe we can exchange names of some known family members and see if we are of the same bloodline. I am not certain when my grandfather (Felix) arrived in NY but he came before my mother (Dorothy) and she arrived in 1930. They were living in Port of Spain although I am not certain that either was born in BWI. I know that there were still many family members in Trinidad and I believe that there are still some there today. I know that there was a Ronald and a Blanche (who later became Haynes)...and a Letitia. Do any of these names sound familiar to you?

I see that Charles Lastigue had a daughter named Beryl and I'm hoping there is a link to my great grandmother Louisa Lastigue (born about 1881)who named her second daughter Valentine Beryl.
Louisa Lastique was born in Puerto Cabello Venezuela but was living in Port of Spain Trinidad when she and her daughters came to America to meet up with her husband Norman Cheltenham who had already come here and gotten settled. I have Louisa's death certficate that says she is the daughter of "Lastique and Catherine Oldrops". I know that looks as if her dad's name was Lastique Oldrops but I've seen other documentation showing that her last name was Lastique so I think the person giving info to the coroner simply didn't know her dad's first name. Any info on Louisa, Catherine, Norman, or the source of the name Beryl is greatly appreciated.

I just saw your post. Trying to locate Lastiques has been a difficult process. I find names of relatives but cannot figure out how each is related to the other. In my family, my grandfather's brother was Charles born around 1886. I don't know his wife's name. But we know that Charles had a daughter named Rita and I think also a son, another Charles, born in 1906 who came to the US in 1923. I believe he was on the same ship as my grandfather (Felix). There is more information, loose ends, unknown connections...but if any of this makes sense to you, please contact me @ dgpphd@aol.com.
