I'm seeking info on all 3 Dancey's. Glen was born in about 1918 & was an RCAF pilot in WW in England I think that his mother Mabel Dancey's birth name may have been Allen, & that his father's mother may have been Hedley. They may have originated further east in Canada & moved to Alberta around 1900's
Any help appreciated

Hello,

Below are some clips and links to Dancey families. I would think that an obit for William or Mabel from the High River newspaper may help with details. Or call the cemetery and ask if they could tell you the name of the funeral home. If they are still in business you can phone and ask for copies of the funeral contract (very informative).

Here is a link to a page from a High River Book that lists G. Dancey on a plaque of local War Dead -

Hello,

I called the High River Town Office today and asked for the dates for the burials for Mabel and William Dancey. They have the dates the plots were purchased which might help -
Mabels plot was purchased 2, 3, 1958 (March 2 or Feb 3, 1958) and Williams was purchased September 29, 1954. These dates should help narrow down the dates to look in the newspapers for obits - the newspaper for High River is the High River Times (it was around back then as well). Most newspapers for southern Alberta are archived in the Glenbow Museum in Calgary and there is a major collection of newspapers for all over Alberta in Edmonton. I would think that if you looked in the Huxley paper near the time of death for Glen you would find an obit or at least a mention. The newspapers were very thorough in their reporting of WW2 deaths of soldiers from local families.

You could try this site to get some local help

I live in Calgary and the next time I am at the Glenbow I will check on the obits in High River. I have no idea how soon that will be though.

They were all KIA on March 24/44 coming back from a night raid over Berlin. I do have a picture of the entire crew. If you would like to have a copy, please let me know and i will gladly send you the picture. I am trying to put the names to the faces on the photo and so far, i only had sucess with idientifying 3 (including my uncle, the pilot and one gunner. Hope to hear from you..

This Blackie history book on-line may help you identify Glen. http://www.ourroots.ca/e/toc.aspx?id=8540 The Dancey bio is on page 185, but there is a picture of Glen in uniform on page 127. Best is to do a Dancey search in the book and click on the page numbers you want. Butch (board volunteer)
