Franz Dorschner married Eliz. Kneissel about 1860 acording to 1900 census (in Appleton)but I didn't find it listed! Franz hailed from Steinbach villege, in Lobs parish. All or most of Dorschners in WI said to be siblings coming in 1853--1870. Catholics but scarce references found in record pre 1900. Farmers from Dale & New London--Hortonville area. Also find almost no trace of Kneissel family. Welcome all news of these folks!

Good to hear from you, Ill write more when I have time. I'd like to hear about the Civil War soldier though, any knowledge about the Wisc. hamily during the War? My gran-gran Franz was there from 1850s but find so little on him, even his marriage which was supposed to be 1860, or any of his kids baptisms. Odd for a supposed Catholic to have no vitals listed in the Diacise?!
Later!
Ron

Ron: There are several of us that are involved in tracing the Dorsher family tree, the family originally were from Austria and France, they migrated to Russia in 1805 or so and migrated to the US and Canada from 1890 to about 1910, members of the family have arrived in the US as early as the 1600's, as far as I know my Grand Father Peter and his brother John as well as some cousins droped the "C" in the name and changed it to Dorsher. I did find however an confederate solider in the Louisana Inf by the name of James Dorsher. Look forward to hearing from you...Tom

Sorry for the log delay to a question that you may have already have the answer to, but Meta is the German short form for Margaret, so more than likely she is a Margaret Dorsher, the Surname Dorsher is a very rare form of Dorscher/Torscher, the family centered in Saxony/Alsace Lorraine France, Moselle France, Tyrol Austria and South Russia (Now Ukraine) in the Odessa area , Kurtchurgan, Baden. My email address is dorsher@speakeasy.net. I also have some questions about your family as well. Warm Regards Tom Dorsher
