My Grandfather Mathis Goins was married to Elisa Jane Anderson. Mathis's father was known as Tennessee Goins, I don't know the wifes name. Elisa Janes parents were Thomas Jefferson Anderson and Wife was Rutha Williams. I don't know where any of these were married but they lived in the Vardy just outside Sneedville. Any input is appreciated.

According to the Will Grohse Papers, Tennessee GOINS was the son of Lydia (?). I don't know what her last name was, or who his father was. He lists Tennessee's wife as Kyrie COLLINS, the daughter of Howard and Jane (MULLINS) COLLINS. Howard was the son of Simeon and Frankie (BUNCH) COLLINS, and the grandson of old Vardy COLLINS. Jane was the daughter of John and "Aunt Mehala" (COLLINS) MULLINS. This was a prominent Melungeon line. I have more info on some of these families if interested. Here's some more info on Tennessee's family;

Descendants of Lydia (?) GOINS

Generation No. 1

1. Lydia1.

Child of Lydia is:
+ 2 i. Tennessee2 Goins.

Generation No. 2

2. Tennessee2 Goins (Lydia1). He married Kyrie Collins February 15, 1893 in Hancock Co., TN?, daughter of Howard Collins and Jane Mullins.

Notes for Kyrie Collins:
"Shorter, slighter than her sister Docia"-WGP. Looked very Indian.

Children of Tennessee Goins and Kyrie Collins are:

3 i. Mollie3 Goins.

4 ii. Flora Goins.

5 iii. Julia Goins.

6 iv. Mathias Goins.

7 v. Lillie Goins.

I have put together a book about my great-grandfather Squire William Denham, from Hancock County, and his decendants. He had two sisters, Mary and Susan, that married Hilton and Milton Bell in Hancock County sometime after the Civil War.

I'm trying to find information on The Goins' from Hancock County Tennessee. My grandparents lived in the War Valley region. My grandfather was Eckel Goins and my grandmother is Bessie Lee Fields. My great-grandmother was a Collins. This is all the information I have as no one seems to like to discuss our family tree. I know without a doubt that I come from a pure strain of Melugeon blood ( if there is such a thing). Can someone assist in my search? Thanks in advance.

A book has been written about the Goins family that Shannon is talking about. The person has done a lot of research on the Goins and has put it together in a way that is easy to follow. The book is still available. If you contact me I can give you the author's information. She is active in the Hancock County Genealogical Society and they featured her recently in their publication.

Jeff, my dad is from Sneedville. His dad was Brownlow Goins and I have no idea if he had brothers or sisters. He married Cora Collins. My dad has several brothers still living in Sneedville if you would like to try to search there. Paris, Woodrow, and James. I don't know if we are related but it seems likely. If you find out anything please e-mail me. Good luck.

Both of your families are covered in the Goins book that is now available. In fact, Shannon, you are in the book and there are two pictures of your grandfather, Brownlow Goins in the Book.

Eckle Goins is also in the book, although not with as much detail, but the ancestry is there. I think the author was unable to get much ifnormation from Eckle's family, but the book goes back to Eckle's great grandfather and makes connectiosn further down.

The author of this book was a close cousin to Eckle Goins and I understand that a few books are still available, although another six sold in the past two days, so I'm not sure how long they will be around. They are reasonably priced at $25 for a hard cover book with many picturs + mailing costs of $3. There are Civil War Pension applications copies that would cost the price of the book alone!! Mrs. Johnie Rhea, Route 2 Box 132, Sneedville, TN 37869 has written a number of articles for Hancock Co Books and the society editor recently featured an article about her. Few books about Hancock Co .are as well done as this book is. I will give you her phone number if you contact me privately.
