My Bosma ancestors - Egbert Gosses Bosma and Johannes Egbert Bosma lived in the Oldeholpade and Wolvega area of Friesland in the early 1800s. Trying to find Bosma relatives still living in the Netherlands. Anybody out there? Thanks.

Thank you for your reply. My father's middle name was Egbert, last name Bosma, and was born in New Holstein Wisconsin in 1916. His father, Egbert Johannes Bosma, was born in the Wolvega area in 1872 and the family immigrated to America in 1882 and settled in Wisconsin. Egbert Johannes father was Johannes Egbert, born in Oldeholtpade in 1846. His father was Egbert Johannes, born in Wolvega in 1813. His father was Johannes Egberts, born in Wolvega in 1781. His father was Egbert Gosses born about 1740. Is it possible there is any connection with your direct Bosma ancestors and mine? I visited Amsterdam last year, and went to Wolvega and Oldeholtpade and the areas surrounding. It was beautiful to see, but I do not speak Dutch, so I'm afraid I did not learn very much new information from the trip. I actively searched my Dutch ancestors on the Tresoar and Genlias websites for about two years off and on. Thank you again for your email and I hope to hear another reply when convenient for you.

Do you mind if I add a little to what you have? I'm not related, but I enjoy the search.

Below is the baptism for Egbert Gosses, b. about 1740:

Weststellingwerf, dopen, geboortejaar 1739, doopjaar 1739
Dopeling: Egbert
Geboren op 5 juli 1739 in Wolvega
Gedoopt op 12 juli 1739 in Wolvega en Sonnega
Kind van Gosse Janz en Lammechie Egberts
Herv. gem. [Reformed community of] Wolvega, Sonnega, Nijelamer en Nijeholtwolde, doop 1686-1811
Inventarisnr.: DTB 777

Egbert registered the family name in 1811:

...and his death, which I think you have:

Overlijdensakte Weststellingwerf, 1823
Aangiftedatum 2 januari 1823, akte nr. 1

3. Peter Gosses, bap. 18 Jun 1741, Wolvega–Sonnega

5. Bieuwke Gosses (f), b. 20 Aug 1745, Wolvega; bap. 22 Aug 1745, Wolvega–Sonnega

7. Jan Gosses, b. 6 Nov 1750, Wolvega; bap. 8 Nov 1750, Wolvega–Sonnega; died infancy; twin brother of Pieter
8. Pieter Gosses, b. 6 Nov 1750, Wolvega; bap. 8 Nov 1750, Wolvega–Sonnega (twin of Jan)

This seems to be Gosse’s baptism, but it’s Roman Catholic (I'll have to look into that a little more):

Weststellingwerf, dopen, doopjaar 1706
Dopeling: Gosse
Gedoopt op 1 juli 1706 in Oldeholtpade
Zoon van Jan Laurents en niet genoemde moeder
R.K. par. Oldeholtpade en Wolvega, doop 1692-1812
Inventarisnr. : DTB 780

There was also a Joannes baptized R.K. in 1708.

Gosse's parents' marriage (Dutch Reformed):

Weststellingwerf, huwelijken 1704
Vermelding: Bevestiging huwelijk op 17 augustus 1704 in Wolvega
Man: Jan Lourens afkomstig van Wolvega
Vrouw: Jacobjen Gosses afkomstig van Noordwolde
Trouwregister Hervormde gemeente Wolvega Sonnega Nijelamer Nijeholtwolde 1687-1811
Inventarisnr.: DTB 778

Lammigien’s parents' marriage:

Weststellingwerf, huwelijken 1714
Vermelding: Bevestiging huwelijk op 16 februari 1714 in Wolvega
Man: Egbert Kleis afkomstig van Wolvega
Vrouw: Bieuke Pyters afkomstig van Oldetrijne
Trouwregister Hervormde gemeente Wolvega Sonnega Nijelamer Nijeholtwolde 1687-1811
Inventarisnr.: DTB 778

They had several children baptized. I believe the following is Lammigien’s baptism but with a typo; 1775 should read 1715 (I’ll have Tresoar check that):

Weststellingwerf, dopen, geboortejaar 1775, doopjaar 1775
Dopeling: Lammegjen
Geboren op 28 mei 1775 in Wolvega
Gedoopt op 30 mei 1775 in Wolvega en Sonnega
Dochter van Egbert Kleis en Biuwkein Peeters
Bron: Collectie Doop-, Trouw-, Begraaf- en Lidmaatboeken (DTBL)
Herv. gem. Wolvega, Sonnega, Nijelamer en Nijeholtwolde, doop 1686-1811
Inventarisnr.: DTB 777

They became members of the Dutch Reformed church serving the communities of Wolvega, Sonnega, Nijelamer and Nijeholtwolde by confession of faith on 16 Nov 1714:

Lidmatenboek Weststellingwerf, 1714
Man: Egbert Kleys
Vrouw: Bieuke Pyters
Woonplaats: Wolvega
Op 16 november 1714 belijdenis
Herv. Gemeente Wolvega, Sonnega, Nijelamer en Nijeholtwolde, lidmaten 1688-1850
DTB 779 blad 36

I hope something here will be helpful.

I cannot thank you enough. You have taken me back one more generation in that you have given me the parents of Egbert Gosses which I did not have. I have ordered and received many documents from Tresoar, but not speaking Dutch I'm not sure what I really have. So many, many thanks to you for your assistance - I am most grateful.

You're very welcome!!! If you have any questions, just ask. My e-mail is carlsonjm@hotmail.com (put Bosma something in the subject line). I hope to hear soon from Tresoar concerning Lammigien's baptism.

I only speak "genealogy" Dutch, but I have a friend in NL who can usually answer the hard questions that I come up with.

Joan

Hello,
My name is Mollo Bosma.
I know for sure that I am directly related to Egbert Gosses Bosma. I have a lot of info about the Bosma family of the period after Egbert Gosses lived (names dates places).
I was not aware that someone from my family tree has escaped to the US.
If you want you can contact me directly at: bosmaborn@hetnet.nl

Hello Joan,
Yes I did receive your mail.
Unfortunately I had to spend 10 days in the hospital and was not able to respond.
As of today I am home again. I need a few days to recover before I will pick up my regular activities.
As soon as possible I will send you part of my family tree, showing how we are related to each other.
I will do this directly to your e-mail adress.
Regards,
Mollo
