My GGG grandfather James Croft was born in Aysgarth, Yorkshire Eng in 1799. His father James Croft married Elizabeth Hutchinson he was born 1757 in Yorkshire. His father also James Croft was born in the same area and married a Margaret Temple Came to US in 1817 but left one member behind a Michael Croft who had 11 children. Michael was born early to mid 1790's.
Memebers of our Croft family still reside in East Witton and Carperby Yorkshire.

Do you have any connection to Michael Croft?

Hi - my connection with the Croft family is through Charles Croft, son of William and Rebecca Croft, of Yorkshire. Unfortunately, I do not have information about siblings or ancestors. Charles was born 1840 in Yorkshire, and married Sarah Hutchinson in 1860 in Grant Co., Wis. Sarah's parents were Joseph and Mary Bentley Hutchinson; Joseph was from Alston, Cumbria and Mary from Great Aycliffe, Co. Durham. Sorry I don't have more information for you but if you can connect them, I would be most grate-ful for any help. Thank you for responding. Jeanne Kaiser

My great grandfather was Benjamin Croft, b. 1835, Staningley, Yorkshire,England. I am searching for info on his family. He married Emma Mary ___ , b. ca 1837, Sheerness, Kent. and they had 8 children, including my grandfather, Arthur, b. 1869, Fulham, Middlesex, England. My grandfather immigrated to America ca 1885, never to return to England.

Could he be related to your Michael?

Michael Croft was my GGG grandfather James Croft's older brother and was the only member of his family that stayed in England. My GGGG grandfather moved his family from Yorkshire in 1817 to America. I have very little information on Michael since he was married and stayed behind in England. However, my GG grandfather was named Benjamin Huctchinson Croft and was born in the USA. I do know that names follow and are used over and over in the Croft family. The Croft family history fromt he time James left England until now is in book that is at the Library of Congress in DC and was published by my 1st cousin Carol Dawn Croft and is titled "james Croft, his antecendants and Descendants." This also a copy that I have donated to the Marshall country Historical Society at Lacon Illinois where the Crofts settled and are buried.

I'm going to send you post to my daughter Ronni Houtzer who is our genealogist and also to a distant relative in England who is descended from Michael. Hope to get an answer for you. My daughters e-mail is ronniwho@yahoo.com.

My Croft ancestors came from Aysgarth and East Wenton area of Yorkshire. I would assume Michael would have stayed in that area. I'm not sure where Staningley is located in relation to that area. My GGG grandfather James Croft was 17 when they came to the US so Michael would have to have been older. There are still members of my family located in Yorkshire at this time. The father and Son both named James were stone masons and worked as stone masons when they first came to the USA but turned to farming and judging by the amount of Illinois farm land they owned they had to be pretty well off.

Thank you for your response to my query. Should you ever run across my Benjamin Croft, I'd appreciate hearing from you. I'm still trying to find Staningley on a map.
Thanks again, from Texas.

Thank you so much for your generous offer to refer my query to your family genealogist as well as to a relative still in England. I appreciate so much your effort on my behalf.
