I am having the same difficulty with my Hoyland line. My great grandmother was a Hoyland - born in Ohio. My great great grandfather was David Hoyland born in Pa. around 1845 and married to Elizabeth Caroline Roach. I found civil war records but nothing beyond that. David and Elizabeth had a son named William A. Hoyland (listed on my grandmothers marriage registration). I will post any information I find on the Hoyland name for others.

Do you have the names of Ernest Hoyland's parents. Are they Benjamin and Annie?

Hi! I am a Hoyland and I have been told through family information on my father's side that we came from High Hoyland in Yorkshire. My great grandfather (I do not know his name unfortunately) was adopted by the Hoylands so I hope that helps? I also heard we came from Ireland origionally.
