My gr-grandmother was born around 1855.
In the 1881 census she gives her place of birth as Doveholes but in 1901 as Wardlow. These are in different registration districts and I can't find her on any indexes. Her father was John Allsop. They eventually moved to Oldham but can anyone find her in the 1861 census ?

Hi Colin
Could you perhaps post the 1881 entry details? I can't seem to find her on that :-) or at least not with a tie in to 1901 as well.
There is a possibility in the 1861 but I'm not sure as the surname is with one "L", in 1871 too.

By 1881 she was married to Edwin Wrigley and was living at 809 Buckstones Road, Crompton, Lancashire.

She married Edwin Wrigley 9.07.1873 at East Crompton Parish Church. Apologies its the 1891 census that gives Wardloe.

John Alsop and Mary Ellen Smith are on the same page for marriages at Bakewell Sept qtr 1854 7b 781

Hard to be sure that she is the one you want because of the missing "L" but I'll leave you to worry about that :-)
Wonder why she gave her place of birth differently in 1881?

Kate

Thanks for all the info.

The ages for your cenuses work but don't quite fit with the marriage certificate. Edwin her husband deducted several years from his age on the certificate (and kept the pretence up in the censuses), I suspect she added a couple of years onto her marriage age.

Hi again Colin.
I tried to find a birth for Sarah Ellen Al(l)sop to match the IGI entry but no luck.
I can't see Mary Ellen in 1861/71 nor John - though I didn't look too hard for him since there is no age to work from.
Keziah (Smith) Keats had moved to Sheffield by 1865ish

And by 1881 Keziah had remarried so she is Keziah Pincham, husband William. Living with Fanny E Keats and other dau Sarah E now Crookes, husband George.
Not that it helps a bit in deciding if this is the family you want :-(

Thanks for the info.

I'm struggling as well to find her birth. As she and her Husband seemed to chage ages depending on the circumstances it's all very puzzling.
