I am the Town of Champion, Jefferson Co. NY historian and
Delevan Miller is a 1st cousin, 5 times removed. His
father Loten was a brother of my grandmother's grandfather
Rev. Allen Miller, both sons of Samuel Miller and Electa
Mix. Electa Mix was the daughter of Joel Mix and Eleanor
Merriam and this family was the first family to arrive in the
Town of Champion in 1799. Joel Mix was the founder of West Carthage. Delevan's father, Sgt. Loten Miller is buried along
with my ancestors in the Hillside Cemetery in the Hamlet of
Champion. Delevan Miller wrote two books about his
service as a 13 year-old drummer boy in the Civil War. I
have copies. Would like to learn your interest in Delevan and
if you are a descendant. I also have some original records
of the Mix-Miller family.

One of Electa Mix's brothers, James Mix's biography says:
James kept for years a diary, which became of value to the historical student.
Was wondering if you ever read it? If so, does it list their siblings?
I only have Electa, Sylvester, James, Laura, Joel and Sally.

Thanks,
Ron Miller

I know nothing about this diary or the Mix family. My original inquiry concerned Delavan Miller.

I have a listing of all of Joel Mix's children which he wrote
out himself with their birthdates. This was later sown into
his daughter Laura Mix Barr's bible which I have in my
possession. I am a direct descendant of his daughter
Electa who married Samuel Miller. Please e-mail me
your relationship to this Mix family. I will send you my
information to your e-mail address. Suzanne Wiley

Forgot to include that I have a xeroxed copy of James
Mix's diary. A biographical sketch with James's picture is
in a local Jefferson County, NY history book. I will add that to the other information I will be sending you.

Delavan Miller is one of my Miller relatives. I have a lot of
material on him also.

Hope to hear from you shortly. Suzanne

My Delavan Miller was born about 1854, the son of Daniel C Miller and Nancy Siver. His brothers were James H and Chauncy who died young. James was in Civil War. The family lived mainly in Oswego Co, NY. I am descended through James who married a Pearsall. You have some of the same names in your line, is it possible there is a connection somewhere?
