Norman Clergyman Dies

Delmar Owens, 58, minister of Westside Church of Christ, Norman,, and
a founder of Oklahoman Christian College, died Wednesday in Norman
after an apparent heart attack.

Owens was rushed to Norman Municipal Hospital where he was reported
dead on arrival after his car jumped a curb at Camden Way and
Garrison at 1:40 pm Wednesday.

A native of Paris, Texas, Owens attended Parks College there and
Harding College at Searcy, Ark. He was a college orator and
belonged to a state championship debate team.

Owens came to Norman in 1970 from Garden Oaks Church of Christ in
Houston. He had been minister of Eastside Church of Christ,
Tulsa, for 23 years.

While in Tulsa Owens helped found Central Christian College in
Bartlesville. He was instrumental in moving the college to
Oklahoma City where it became known as Oklahoma Christian College.
He served on the OCC board of trustees until 1966.

The author of eight books, including "The One Hundredfold Life,"
Owens was also president of Owens Publications, Inc.

He is survived by his wife, Aubyn; a son, David, public relations
director for OCC; his parents, Mr and Mrs Bob Owens, of Paris,
Tex.; a sister, Mrs J C Bevill, Ft Worth, Tex., and three grandchildren.

...I did not locate an obit for Aubyn. After
searching the SSDI, I did notice that her death
was verified (V). Her family may have declined
to have her death published, as this would be
their choice. However, I did locate one for one
of her great-grandsons which you may want.

Thomas Preston Hackler, 6 of Edmond, OK passed away
Dec 21, 1996 in Edmond, OK. He was born on June 8, 1990
in OKC, OK. to James P and Christin Hackler. Thomas was
in the Developmental First Grade Class.

Survivors include Parents: James P and Christin Hackler
of the home; brothers, Christopher, Brian and Michael
Hackler of the home; maternal grandparents: David R Owens
of Edmond, OK. Sharon Prafka of Edmond, OK; paternal
grandparents: Mr and Mrs Thomas C Hackler of Sara Sota,
Florida; maternal great-grandparents: Aubyn L Owens of
Edmond, OK. Mary Alice Cooper of Kansas.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday,
December 26, 1996 at Baggerely Funeral Home Chapel,
930 S Broadway Edmond, OK 405-341-3737

John Newton Johnson was my mother's brother and my uncle. He married Estes Meade, I was building a family tree and working on the Meade family. Aubyn was one of Aunt Estes half sisters if I remember right. I'm not looking at my notes so not sure. I found most of what I need for my tree. I'm Skip's first cousin. Thanks for your response.
