I'm following the Laurens, SC list because I'm researching my McClanahan roots there. My great great grandfather Samuel McClanahan was born 9/19/1801 in Laurens SC. He married Louisa W. Caldwell Cochran (b. 2/7/1807 in Abbeville Dist., SC) on 4/23/1829. I'm trying to confirm that father of my Samuel was indeed John McClanahan was born abt. 1774 in Ireland and married Jennette McClurkin (who was born 1783 in Laurens, Cty, SC). I have an LDS microfilm with a lot of information on marriages and branches of this family that includes the names above.
I don't connect specifically with your Neely, but thought I'd give you what I have, which is: Moses Sylvanus Neely, born June 8, 1833 in Madison County, TN and died 1884 in Madison Cty. On May 8, 1873 in Jackson Madison Cty, TN he married Louisa Jane McClanahan, b. 1841 in Jackson, Madison Cty, TN and died 10/1884 in Jackson, Madison Cty, TN. I know she is buried in Riverside Cemetery in Jackson, TN so perhaps he is too. Several McClanahans started out in Laurens SC and ended up in Jackson, Madison Cty, TN so perhaps some of your Neelys did, too.

Yes, The Ried family I have is from S.C. and probably Laurens co. I have a David Reid born 1795. I think this is the Reid I found in the book "ANNALS OF NEWBERRY" They were a large family of mostly male. David Reid was my 3rd great-grandfather. He was in Lincoln co. Tn at one time and I don't know if he was buried there or not.
I plan to work on this line soon as I get my Gragg line traced.

Were the ancestors of your NEELYs named McNEELY? Do you connect with Susan Jane McNeely who married John W. Entrekin (1826-1863)? John was b in Laurens Co. SC. John's "other wife" was Mary Abernathy whom he married in 1845.

Sorry I don't know the answer to your question. I do not know of any connection between our Neelys and any McNeelys in Laurens County, SC, but I can't say that there wasn't one.

Seeking information on the families of RHODA PEARIS NEELY and her husband, WILLIAM LOWERY / LOWREY.

William was b. abt 1750 in VA, and d. 09 Apr 1915 in Jefferson Co, GA. He received a land grant in Laurens Co, SC abt 1768, and it is believed the Neely family lived in the area. William Lowery is mentioned in a will of James McGill as his nephew. James Magill is the husband of Christian Nealy/ Neely , d/o William Neely and Christian Pearis of Frederick Co, VA.

Rhoda Neely is also believed to be the daughter of William Neely and Christian Pearis.

Would like to learn of William Lowery's relationship to other Lowery families in the Laurens Co, SC area. Children of William Lowery and Rhoda P. Neely migrated into GA.
