Hello! Lauritz Thomsen was my Great Grandfather, and Thomas Thomsen and Caroline Nielsen were his parents. We know he had at least eight brothers and sisters. It appears Lauritz was born in this county in 1901.

If anyone has any information, it would be extremely wonderful. It's difficult to search for our Danish ancestors, and especially with the last names Thomsen and Nielsen! If anyone can provide us with any sort of information, I would greatly appreciate it.

Could you please tell me where Lauritz Thomsen was born and his exact (or as good as you can) birthdate? Then we can find a census record with Thomas Thomsen and his wife and find their year of emigration and that will give us a BIG clue!!!

Lauritz/Laurits/Louis (Americanized) Thomsen - born Feb 17, 1901. We know his father was Thomas Thomsen, and his mother was Karoline Nielsen. The Nielsen part we've seen spelled many different ways, but this was the version we've seen in letters and given to us by family. Whether it's been changed or not, we're unsure of.

We have a large amount of letters written to Lauritz from his family in Denmark. We do not understand Danish, but we've determined they sent letters from Korip or Korup. And we keep seeing Jylland. My mom believes this might mean Jutland, but Jylland could be something else entirely.

And a Hadsund, Denmark, perhaps the same location? Or the boundries changed? We're not entirely certain there.

We also keep seeing mentions of the names Marie (often), Christian or Kristian, a Lisa, Alma... maybe siblings or spouses of siblings or children?

Lauritz immigrated by himself to the US. He arrived at Ellis Island on March 14, 1923. It said he resided in Kongerslev, Denmark. He was 22 at this point in time. He departed from Copenhagen. We have that Ellis Island document, as well as his passport (where we learned his parents names). He was born in Karip/Karup, his passport says.

We also know he had several siblings, based on a photograph we have. We know he was an older sibling, but somewhere in the middle.

But Thomas and Karoline did not come with Thomas to the US, which is where we find our brick wall!!

When you say you have letters, pictures and a passport -- do you actually have them or are they copies from the website?

Also -- I dont know for sure if this is the right Lauritz Thomsen or not -- would have been my great grandfather and father to Marion Christensen Thompson (my grandfather). He is supposed to have emigrated from Denmark and became a Baptist minister (circuit preacher) preaching in German, Danish and English in Iowa/South Dakota.
