I have reached a dead end with research on my branch of the davy line. William Davy and Elizabeth Houchin were married at Wickham Skeith, Suffolk in 1769 and had children Elizabeth (1770/71) William (1772) Jeasy and Mary (1782). I am descended from Elizabeth - who had 3 illegitimate children ( Esther 1789, Thomas 1785 and Tirzah 1799) before marrying Samuel Clears in 1807 and having a further 2 children, Ann (1808) and James (1810). I would appreciate any information on this family.

Hi Jeff,
The first John I have in this family was born in Australia in 1861, after his parents Thomas Davy and Maria (nee Meen from Fressingfield, Suffolk) arrived in Australia in 1856 as assisted immigrants. John was my g-grandfather.
Best Wishes,
Lyn Pritchard (nee davy)

Hi Lyn,
Is there any chance that my gr gr grndfthr could be the son of your Thomas b. 1785? My Thomas was a native of London b. 1813, who lived for many years in Barnstaple, Devon, then emigrated to PEI in c. 1840. He married Dorothy Goss and had 10 children. First daughter named Elizabeth, and possibly his sister Elizabeth b. 1822 emigrated to PEI also. Thanks for any info you may share.

Hi Shirley,
Thank you for replying to my posting. My Thomas b. 1785 (Wickham Skeith) married a Sarah Lawrence at Needham in Norfolk - then returned to Syleham, Suffolk. I am descended from their son (also Thomas!) who married Maria Meen from Fressingfield and emigrated to Australia. So I don't think that their is a connection between our families at this stage.
Happy hunting!

Im looking for my grandfathers background. He was an only child and born in the London area ( Cockney )on April 06 1887. He emigrated to South Africa when he was 17 years old and worked as a carpenter in an Anglican Cathedral in a place called Umtata - Natal ( SA ). His father ( I dont know his name ) worked for the London Breweries and was ultimately killed by a breweries truck. Anyone have a link to this Davy family. My grandfather married Constance Elizabeth Ogilvie-Goff here in South Africa. The family Goff were from England too.

I have a marriage between Mary Davy & John Harrowing in Costessey, Norfolk (1765). I wonder if there is a relationship with William Davy?

It's a bit of a long shot, but later on chronologically in the Whitby branch of the Harrowing family, there appears to be property in Suffolk (Occold and Rishangles).

I am trying to find evidence to prove that my branch of the Harrowing family travels backwards from Whitby through London and Kent (Maidstone) before finding its origin in Norfolk (Norwich hinterland). I suspect that Suffolk may have been on their path and would not be at all surprised to find that my Mary Davy hails from Suffolk.

Has your research found any siblings for William Davy or evidence to prove where he was born?

Rgds

Karen

Dear Karen,
I haven't found anything further about my William. I think this may be him. An entry in the parish registers in Cotton, for 1744 - William base child of Elizabeth Davey, baptised 22 November. Cotton is apparently near Wickham Skeith. There is a William Davy born about 1745 in Wickham Skeith Suffolk listed on the IGI film no. 1985530. No parents listed. However the parish records do not have an entry for William at Wickham Skeith.
I have another Davy family (eventually marries one of William's descendants)one day I think there will be a common ancestor. With this family Mary Davy (bapt 13 July 1766 Rumburgh, Suffolk) married Robert Reeder ( bapt 27 Aug 1769 St Mary Magdalene Norfolk) in 1790 Rumburgh, Suffolk. Mary's parents were Samuel Davy ( 1733 Bungay) and Elizabeth Reynolds(abt 1741/2 ?) - I do not have details of their marriage, or Mary's siblings.I don't know if this is of any help - but may give you some places to look for your Davy family.
Best Wishes,
Lyn

Many thanks Lyn,

It's all needle in the haystack stuff, but at least I know where to start!

If I come across anything that might fit with your families, I'll let you know.
