In the Historical Register of Virginians 1775-1783(book) by John H. Gwathmey, Capt. Gabriel Fowlkes of the Amelia Mil., took oath April 22, 1779. Capt. Samuel Fowlkes also of the Amelia Mil. took oath in 1777. Possibly they are brothers or more probably cousins. In some old family records, I found this: James Fowke/Fowkes immigrated to Accomac Co., Virginia in 1663. His son Thomas had son Benjamin who had son William who had son Thomas and then to Samuel. Have you heard any of these names?

I have information on Col. Gabriel and would be interested in how you are related. What do you want to know?

He was born in Amelia Co., Va. (now Nottoway Co.),the third child of Gabriel Sr., who alledgedly came over from Wales. It is generally thought that he married Ursula (Thompson?/Mays?).

His children were: Thompson, (Capt.)Gabriel III, Elizabeth, Sarah (Sally), Nathan, Amey,Jennings Mays, Mourning, Tabitha, Jane and Prudence.

Hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you are related.

Thanks- Stephen

Hi -- My brother, Steve Crowley, and I are doing research into the Fowlkes branch of our family tree. I have spent a fair amount of time on the FamilySearch site, but have gotten stuck there because of a gap in info about my greatgrandmother Estelle Fowlkes parents. From what I can tell her father was Gabriel Fowlkes of Hickman County, Tennessee, b. 1833.
I THINK her mother was Senona McMinn. I am not sure about this info though, because the PAF's in FamilySearch on this Gabriel Fowlkes do not show who his children or wife were. This is further complicated because there seem to be several Gabriel Fowlkes.
Question-- Is anyone familiar with the Fowlkes family of Hickman County Tenn? I know that Estelle Fowlkes was born in Aug 1875 and married Walton Montgomery Frazier in 1894. Their child ( my grandmother) was Annie Lee Frazier (1895-1988, also of Hickman County Tenn.
Thanks for any leads. Hoping we can positively identify Estelle Fowlkes' parents so that go on back to earlier generations...

I have a little information on a Henry H. who was born 8-18-1838 and married F.B. They lived in Chickasaw County, MS. He died 3-27-1881. His parents were John Thompson (born 1807 in TN) and Mary (Johnson?). John was a farmer in Monroe Co., TN. Their children were: John, Henry H., Mary, Ellen and William. I have the lineage back to Gabriel I if you need it.

If you think this is who you are looking for could you fill me in on Henry's children and down through you? Thanks. Stephen
