because (if I am reading correctly) that he left Austria in 1938 I would say he was more than likely Jewish. mendel is a common Jewish first name and last name. My husbands family also fled Austria in 1938 because of the Nazis. Where did he immigrate to?

adress has changed - former Bernbrunngasse is now
Münichreiterstraße: bis 1894 (Unter) St. Veiter Allee, 1894–1938 Bernbrunngasse, 1938–1946 Stuttgarter Straße
Münichreiter-street: up to 1894 (sub) St. Veit Avenue, 1894-1938 Bernbrunn-lane, 1938-1946 Stuttgarter-street

no idea if the housenumber still would fit:
you can zoom in also and can take right above Satellit to see the house.

just found your Mendel-family-history and it shows another adress - Bernbrunngasse 39:
not sure if present Münichreitergasse 39 fits:
do you think it´s the same house like Bernbrunngasse 39 was:

Mendel not at Bernbrunngasse 39 in 1921-1930!
last columne right side >

can this be your grandfather in the jewish cemetery database?
Winter Leo 64 Year(s) Deceased 05/02/1933 Date of funeral 05/05/1933
Cemetery ZENTRALFRIEDHOF IV. TOR group 14 row 9 grave 48
2 Hermine Winter to find in this Holocaust-list:

ask for the Winter-grandparents at Historische Meldedaten Wien/Historical registry-dates Vienna 1904-1970. state this date > My mothers father deceased 1933 at age 64, so they have a point to start. then look if there will be to find then the above stated last adress of one of the Hermine Winter-women.the registry-dates will have wife, husband, children, other adresses when moved and so on.
ask about the stated e-mail adress under "Zuständige Stelle" of vienna city archives.
Historische Meldeunterlagen (1904-1975) - Auskunft.

Maybe the Mendel-grandparents are stated if you state your fathers last adress Bernbrunngasse 39.
