Muster rolls do not indicate that he deserted. They only indicate that he was sick on four different rolls. I'm guessing the Copyist who gave him the deserter tag erred, as Christopher is still carried on the rolls two months after the Copyist indicated that he deserted.

The red flag has been taken off his name in DAR, so applications in his name can be sent in.

Yes. I found his Revolutionary War record on a subscription service called Fold 3. He was left behind sick, and his unit moved on. A copyist, about 20 years after the war looked at his records and wrote that he deserted. He was carried on the rolls as a casualty 2 months after the copyist gave him that designation. I wrote to DAR and sent the records to them.

You are correct. I contacted a local registar of DAR when the red flag first appeared. She assured me that would be corrected and she is a descendant of Christopher Bewley. Sorry to say, she has passed away. What a wonderful historian.

So happy to see it has been corrected.
