Parish records were the responsibility of individual ministers. They had no set format, and therefore the information and abbreviations used vary from parish to parish. What in particular are you having difficulty with ?

I'm sure it's obvious that I'm fairly new to researching so my question was more general in nature. I've been looking through parish records for John Baird in Lanarkshire (Glasgow), Scotland, Extracted Parish Records
For example:
Baird, John, weaver, B. and G.B., as mar. Agnes, l. dau. to Andrew Murray, weaver, B. and G.B. 13 Sep 1748

I understand weaver is the occupation what is B. and G.B.?
Not knowing what the abbreviations or method of recording is, I could read this to tell me 3 or 4 different stories!

Thanks for any help!!

I'd guess it's a shortened form of a Latin word, so a couple of things spring to mind, depending on the context.

It could be short for septem or septimo, which are "seven" and "on the seventh" respectively.

Also it could be short for sepultat, sepultabat or sepultatus est/erat, which equate to "he was buried".

Do either of those fit?
