Breen family of Williamsport

Surnames: Breen
I am looking for additional information regarding Patrick Breen (DOB approx 1828 in Ireland) and his wife, Mary Hannan/Hannon Breen (DOB approx 1830 in Ireland) who resided in Williamsport in the 1850's-1870's. Patrick and his 8 children then moved to Kansas City prior to the 1880 census. Mary did not come with him ( perhaps died?)
Mary and Patrick had their first child in New York state in 1854, but all the rest were born in Williamsport between 1855 and 1873.

I do not know what county in Ireland they were from, nor do I know why the came to Williamsport, or why the moved to Missouri.
Any insight you can give would be most welcome.

Patricia Breen, g-g granddaughter of Patrick

Quick search of records at Lycoming County Gen Society( on Mary from any cemetery records. Did find immigration papers for Patrick in 1852 which mention he was under 18 at the time and his father was John.Found his papers immigrated in 1851 from County Wexford in Ireland.

Hope this helps

Thanks so much.
Are the immigration papers easily found on the ancestry site?
I have been looking but not finding anything of interest.

Your Patrick is my great great uncle. He was brother of michael and John jr., sons of John sr. John jr and sr came to Williamsport via Baltimore in 1851. Patrick and Michael came via Philly in 1852. All were naturalized together. I have a copy of their original application and John jr.s u.s. citizenship certificate. John jr. Was my great great grandfather who had son Lester who then had son Richard, my grandfather.

They are from Wexford county Ireland.

Wow! Wonderful to hear from you! I would love to compare notes and and figure out our relationship. If you send me your email, I will send you an invite to my tree. If you'd like, you can email me an invite to your tree at And of course it would be great to see the naturalization info.

Have you by any chance done the Ancestry DNA test? It's reasonably priced and gives lots of useful information.

Thanks! Patricia Breen

I apologize if I haven't replied to you on this before now. I don't know why i haven't see your posting before today. I can and will share the naturalization paperwork i have on your Patrick. If he is in fact the son of John and grandson of John, both in Williamsport, I am related to you. Recently I have discovered the cemetery records and burial site of Patrick's brothers Michael and John, with their wives, and believe I have located their father John.

I will also email you.

Hi Todd,

I think it is likely that my Patrick and your Patrick were different people.
It turns out my Patrick didn't live in Williamsport after all, but in a smaller town some miles away called Porter Township. He was a laborer there.
He was also living in New York state in 1854 (or at least his first daughter was born there), so the details are not matching up. Although, it is true that details tend to be quite fuzzy from back then.

It would still be very interesting if there were Breens living nearby during this time frame, perhaps they were extended family? I would be interested in any info you may have about John Sr. Is he buried in Williamsport?

Thanks for getting in touch. Let's stay in range. I will send you a link to my tree.

do you have any information about Patrick's father, or any brothers or sisters? We may be searching for the same person.

I am seeking information about a Patrick Breen (born aprox - 1828-1835), brother of Michael and John (2); he was the son of John Breen (1) (born 1810) wexford. All came to williamsport in 1851...but, Patrick left the area. Michael and both John's lived and died in Lycoming county.
