Although I haven't found an answer to this question, there is some interesting data which might
provide a useful research path.

I consider it useful to compile info on the Cros(s)man families in all of Essex County 1850 & onward)
An inspection of the individual records for 1830 & 1840 can see what the age ranges are for the
What strikes me in particular as a useful research path is
Elijah Crossman of 1830.
Back in 1996 a Tom Crossman posted the following ...http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nozell/GEN-NYS-L/archives/...
"[The Columbia County NY] historical society responded to my request with quite a number of pages of
info. I'll be adding some to the pages hopefully this weekend. Also, I'll be
emailing some of it directly to you all.
Here's the first installment

So, lets look at the Elijah Crossman entry
Sutton Mass VR have three marriages for an Elijah Crossman
Rebecca Marsh 22 May 1777
Ruth Thayer 16 Feb 1791
Elizabeth Hewitt 20 Feb 1794
You might want to investigate this Sutton Elijah as the 1830 Crown Point Elijah;
and consider the remaining men in the 1830, 1840 censuses as candidates to be children/grand-children of Elijah &
one or more of his three wives.
In this light you might reflect on the POSSIBLE relationship of Nathan/Elisabeth Crossman to Elijah/Elizabeth (Hewitt) Crossman
(Personally, I consider the Nathan born in 1808 (see 1850 census) to be a better candidate as an Elijah son
but that gets messier).
(Now let's see how soon the above clue suggestions become FACT in somebody's "Family Tree")
