Robert Maxwell - blacksmith, Belfast, Ireland (1870)

On the street directories on the PRONI website I found a listing for 1870 which shows a man named Robert Maxwell, working as a blacksmith, at 6 Haldane Street, Belfast, Ireland. (There is also an Eliza Maxwell living at number 4 - maybe a relation?)

Does anyone have any information on the family of this Robert Maxwell (or Eliza)? I'm especially interested in parents or siblings as I am researching Maxwells in this area of Belfast at this time, but any kind of details would be gratefully received.

Thanks,
Alan

Doesn't ring a bell I'm afraid - I have a James Maxwell from Belfast who would probably be of a comparable age to William but unfortunately I know little about him and he is my Maxwell brick wall at the moment. I don't think I've ever seen the name Francis anywhere in my own Maxwell tree, which makes it seem unlikely that there's any close connection unfortunately. I shall keep looking!

Thanks for replying.

while looking for maxwells in belfast, i saw your post. i needed a diversion as i'm at dead end, so used the national censuses advanced search option for blacksmith and maxwell.

there were a few, but the one below is the only one listed in belfast (ormeau, down). the ages are not appropriate, but it may be a link to what you are looking for:

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Down/Ormeau...

the others found in 1901/1911 searches using parameters down/antrim for maxwell and blacksmith show a family in the ballymena area and another outside of banbridge. both have a robt connection as well, if i remember correctly.

ages again not appropriate but also found an eliza/robt maxwell connection:

Name: Robert Maxwell
Gender: Male
Birth Date: 26 May 1866
Birth Place: Belfast No 3, Ant, Ireland
Baptism Place: Belfast No 3, Ant, Ireland
Father's Name: George Maxwell
Mother's Name: Eliza Morrison
FHL Film Number: 101125

some belfast 3 streets include:
Agnes Street
Clifton Park Avenue
Duncairn Avenue
Foyle Street (1891)
Joseph Street (1940)
Liffey Street (1895)
Upper Malvern Street (1902)
Upper Meenan Street
Oldlodge Road
Oldpark Road (Lower)
Sancroft Street
Shankill
Shannon Street (1929)
Suir Street
Weir Street

hope you find your connection!

The approximate location (Down) and father's name is appropriate for an ancestor that I am looking for. By chance do you know if Robert had an older brother named William (who was a stone mason) born after 1850?
