Where is "Coalmeals", co. Clare?

Hi,

I have been trying to locate the parish of Coalmeals, co. Clare for some time. So far, I haven't been successful.
I got the name from the "List of Orphans in the Catholic Orphanage of Quebec 1847-1848".
My ancestor, Elizabeth Mahoney, is listed as coming from "the parish of Coalmeals, co. Clare".
Since the list was compiled by the Grey Nuns and that most of them were French Canadian, they might have made a spelling mistake while writing the name down...I'm not sure.
Can anyone help?
Thanks,

Patrick

Hi Patrick,
Having given some thought to your query, I conclude you seek Coolmeen, a townland because there is no parish of a similar name in Clare.
I suggest:
Coolmeen, Parish of Killonaghan, Ballyvaughan, or
Coolmeen, Parish of Kilfiddane, Labasheeda, Killadysert, or
Coolmuinga, Parish of Kilrush, Kilrush, all in Co. Clare.

Hope this is of some help.
Regards,
Mike

"Coalmeals" is more than likely O'Callaghans Mills"Co.Clare.
There are many Shalloo families living in O'Callagnans Mills today. The name was probaly written phonetically upon arrival in Canada.
