My family is from the Kingstree area and I'm trying to locate accounts of slave ownership. If anyone has accounts of their family owning slave, please e-mail me. Both of my grandparents are from Williamsburg County. My grandmother's name is Myers and my grandfather's name is Pressley. My family owns a large potion of land in Williamsburg County, which I'm sure was probably aquired from our slave owners. I'll find out this weekend out our family reunion.

Hi Vanessa,

I think we might be related. My grandparents were Peter and Luttie Pressley Nesmith of Nesmith, SC. I'm just starting to do a search on my great-grandparents, Jim and Phoebe McCutchen Nesmith of Nesmith, SC. I'm also trying to do the slave owners search, but I'm not exactly sure how to start. Would you happen to know your grandfather's first name as my grandfather, Peter, had brothers and sisters that I've never met. Perhaps you might even know your great-grandfather's name. Hope to hear from you soon.

I was looking through all messages that had "kingstree" listed in them and came across yours. You listed COOPER as one of your family's names.

My great parents were Henry Cooper and Elizabeth Eaddy. They were slaves in Kingstree. They marrried around 1865 and later migrated to SE Georgia. They settled in Axson. Henr left his family looking for work and never returned and/or heard from. Elizabeth stayed in Axson and raised their children -- Willie, Robert, James, Garfield, Delia, Roxie, and Louisa (my grandmother), Have you come across their names in your research. I am also looking for any siblings of them.

Hi Vanessa Wilkins, I'm a Nesmith by birth and my mother was a Burrows from Kingstreet. I still have relatives in Kingstreet that I haven't seen in since I was a little girl and also in Nesmith too. My grandmother (on my father's side) was a Pressley who had a twin sister. They both married brothers from Nesmith. Does any of this sound familiar in any resesarch you've done so far?

This is all VERY strange. I'm beginning to think everyone from the Kingstree area is related somehow. I know I'm also related to the Bluford familiy as well. My aunt has been making more headway then me. I'm going to gather all of the messages I recieved and try to put together some puzzle pieces. I think she recently found that my great, great grandfather is not Boson (sp?) as we originally thought, but Wilson. Also, I read somewhere that someone had a Jannie. My great grandmother's name is Jannie. I used to think that was an odd name. My grandmother's name is Lula Mae. I can see that Mae as a middle name was also pretty common.

Here's some of what I know about my grandfather. His father (I'll get youthe name _____ Pressley) was married to _____. They had several children before she died. My grandfather re-married a woman ______ who was a widow and had several children. Togther, they had more children, my grandfather included. I'll try to get you names.
