I am looking for the country of origin of the Ehinger family, and information about their emigration to the US. Also I would appreciate any information about my great grandfather Frederick Christopher Ehinger of Palmyra, Michigan. I know he was married to Ada Hill and was one of 8 children: Carrie,Lucy, Bertha, Emma, Frank, Edward, and Karl. I think his father's name was Charles Ehinger who was married to someone named Augusta. That's as far back as I can trace them. Any assistance would be greatly apprciated!

A few years ago I visited some of my father's family in St. Gallen Switzerland, and found that the name probably came from a small town South East of Frankfurt, called Ehingen. It is close to the towns of Ulm and Zingen, and also not far from Rothenberg, which is an ancient walled town, that is now a well known tourist attraction.

While there, with a bit of assistance from the locals, we did a quick check, and there were no Ehingers living in Ehingen, but there were in Ulm, and Zingen, which is where my father's family came from.

My father migrated from Switzerland, to the US via Paris and Manitoba to Chicago, North Dakota, then to Washington State circa 1920.

See "The Diary of Jorge von Ehingen" by Malcolm Letts, F.S.A., London Oxford University Press. Humphrey Milford 1929.....great stuff. Soldier of Fortune

Also, Kilchberg Castle in Tubigen was occupied by lineal decendents from 1402? to about 1958 when the last decendent died. Big stuff around there. One of the family castles is now an inn. Sold in 1742? We stayed there about 30 years ago. Family name in high regard. If important, I will try look around for info.

For Albert
I suspect that our grandfathers were brothers and came to the US from Germany in the mid 1850's aboard the ship "Irene" They were half brothers and sons of Sigmund Ehinger. Does this sound familiar??
