Which newspaper should I consult if I am seeking to find an obituary of someone from Union, New Jersey. I am looking for the obituary of Jeffrey Wayne Koonce who died November 19, 1967 in Vietnam. Hello Taneya,
You could try the Newark Star Ledger or the Elizabeth Daily Journal. The names 'Newark' and 'Elizabeth' may have been dropped from the names; it's been about 42 years since I lived in Union Co.
You might also try the Union County Library.

I read your blog and I think it's wonderful what you and your family are doing. It is sad to see how unkept some old cemeteries are. There is such history there, how can people just not care about their ancesters!

Anyway, I see you have a picture of Jeffrey's name on the Vietnam Wall, but did you know it's also listed on the Vietnam Memorial in Holmdel, NJ with a picture of him and a short bio. I visit that memorial about once a month, so if you'd like I can take a picture of his name on that Wall for you. It's set up a little different. It's a circular wall with 365 blocks, one for every day of the year. The soldiers names are engraved on the day they were KIA. It's a beautiful memorial and there's also an education center there.

Also, his bio mentioned his siblings and that was enough for me to trace his ancestry back three generations to his great-grandparents Henry Koonce & Elizabeth Ellis of Jackson County, Florida. Try the archives of the Newark Star Ledger. It is the largest newspaper in New Jersey.
