A neighbor and I are researching the Febrey family. We live in that portion of Arlington owned by the Henry W. Febrey family. I found that Henry's father was Nicholas married to, first, Belinda Ball and, second, Amanda Ball. I could not find much on Nicholas except in a history of Arlington neighborhoods that Nicholas Febrey was raised in the household of Robert E. Lee. Does anyone know why he was raised in the Lee household?

I have no specific information, but....
George Washington's mother was named Ball. Robert E. Lee's wife was a descendant of George Washington's wife, Martha Dandridge Custis. It could be possible that there was a family connection between Mary Custis Lee and the Febrey family through the Ball connection.

Thank you very much for the info. When I read that Nicholas had been raised in the Lee household, my first thought was he must have been a slave. I think your conclusion is more likely. Thanks again.

I'm researching Febrey family as well and would love to connect and share info.

Hello, I am related to the Febrey family. My name is James Miller and the story I was told by John Gott prior to his passing is that Nicholas was a foundling left on the steps of church. It was around christmas time and he was named Nicholas. I do not know how he got his surname.

mvmaleski,
I noticed that you uploaded some pics of my great-great-grandfather, David Efford King, in his police uniform. I have a very small copy, but I was wondering if you could contact me directly? My email is mlob0706 at yahoo dot com.
