Searching for a James A. Smith born about 1856 and died in June 1926 He married Susan boatman and 2nd wife was the widow of Harry Putman/Putnam. His childen are found in the Guardians Home in Irvington, Marion Co. IN in the 1900 Census. Ay help will be very much appreciated. I don't know where he was born. James A. Smith born in Indiana on 27 Sept. 1856 died: 2 June 1926 Married 1 Oct 1885 in Marion Co. IN wife; Candace Boatman (Name may have been Kansas Boatman) 2nd married 10 March 1890 in Marion Co. IN 2nd spouse Melissa [Boatman] Putman (half brother widow) So far I cannot find his parents. The Guardians Home papers state the childrens grandmother was Caroline, living in West Indianapolis in 1890, The children who were placed in the Guardians Home were: Shalen/Challon Herbert Smith; James Marion Smith; Thomas Lannly Smith and my mother Marie Melissa Smith. Sent to Guardians Home in Irvington, Marion Co. IN. Thomas Lannly was living with Caroline in 1889. James fahter namd maybe Ben/Benjamin Smith. If you can help I will surly appreciate it.
