I am still trying to find the illulsive Armitage familly from the Quyon, North Oslow area of Quebec. I am starting to think I am looking for a unicorn because it seems that information on the Armitages DOESN'T EXIST. Please, if you can help me with the Richard John Armitage line, please email me at sandlgreen@xplornet.ca

Hi,

I found 4 Richard Armitages and 1 John and found a lot of informations for other Armitages from this area. May you be more specific about Richard John ? Do you know any siblings ? his wife's name, any timeframe ?

This is the information that I have, I hope it is correct.
Richard John Armitage, born in Tipperary, Ireland in 1811
baptized in 1819, in Kirkheaton. Married Mary McMurtry in 1840, born 1820. 1845-1891 has him residing in Pontiac, Quebec, Canada. In 1891 he passed away in North Onslow, Pontiac, Quebec, Canada. I have Francis Armitage as his father (whether this is correct or not. Richard and Mary may have had the following children:
James - 1843 - 1899
Francis - 1843
John - 1846
Eliza - 1849 - 1908
Anne - 1851 - 1911
Isebella - 1854 - 1941
Richard M - 1859 - 1891 My Great Grandfather
Mary Ellen or Eleanor - 1861 - 1940
Sarah Jane "Jennie" - 1863 - 1941
Lucy Lydia - 1866 - 1898 (Lydia same dates, same person?)
Matilda - 1871

1861 Census, we can see Richard Armitage sr with Mary his wife and the children you have.

The problem with the non-catholic people is they don't give parents names in the register.

I have the following informations :

Francis Armitage married Sarah Black, 1874-12-24, Clarendon, Anglican. He's from Onslow, she comes from Bristol

James Armitage married Mary Ann Young, 1887-03-31, Bristol-Eardly-Onslow, Anglican. He's from Onslow, she comes from Bristol.

John Armitage married Eliza Jane Armitage, 1872-06-15, Clarendon, Anglican. They are both from Onslow.

Annie Armitage married Samuel Sunstrum 1881-10-06, Eardley Anglican. They both come from Onslow.

Isabella Armitage married Thomas Major, 1879-10-23, Eardley Anglican. He's from Bristol, she comes from Onslow.

No parent, no witness mentionned. It would be nice to see the register in case the parents or witnesses signed it.

Richard your grand-father, I believe you should know who he married ? you have the date ?

Ref. for these mariages, BMS SGO

Did you check other census ? this is your best way to follow the family.

I am sorry, I may have left out great grandfather,
My father was Horace Noble Armitage, from Onslow,
My grand father, his father, John James Armitage, mother Ellen Maria Fields, from Bristol
My Great Grandfather would have been the Richard Armitage who married the Ellen McCord.

Ref. for these mariages, BMS SGO, what does BMS SGO stand for? Just a little genealogically illerate.

BMS is for Baptemes, Mariage et Sepultures from SGO for Societe Genealogie Outaouais. You have to be a member to acces the website.

http://www.genealogieoutaouais.com

Richard and Ellen McCord got married 1883-07-05, Clarendon Anglican. He's from Onslow, she comes from Clarendon

I don't find the mariage for John James and Ellen Maria Fields.

But found the 1911 and 1901 Census. http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/census11/View.jsp?id=85624...

You will also find Isabella and her husband, Thomas Major and her family as a neighbour.
