I have just uncovered a note among some genealogy material that I have that said "Grandpa's mother was a Tennessee Cherokee". If this is factual, that would be Nancy Catherine Kilgore, daughter of John Kilgore and Martha Maxfield. This doesn't fit with information I now have, although the Cherokee/Choctaw connection has been a tradition with many family members. Does anyone have any historical information on Cherokee Kilgores? I also have Cherokee Indian in my background. My grandfather was Sidney Connor Kilgore, wife Lola Deason. My great grandfathe was John Kilgore, married Jalie Shepherd from Brunswick, GA. My great-great gtandfather's name was William Kilgore. My grandfather was born in 1867 but I don't have the year of birth for the others. As far as I know, they lived in Tuscaloosa county Alabama most of their lives.

I have a William Kilgore with children: Samuel, Dave, Henry, Sarah, Meg (Margaret), Della. Sarah was my great grandmother-she married a Ferguson. William was later known as the blind preacher in Marion Co-Victoria/Whitwell area. I'm not positive who his parents are. Do you see a connection?

Have you had any luck with information on the Kilgores and Indian ties? I know nothing other than we have William Kilgore "the blind preacher" who on the back of a photo it said that he was born and lived all his life in Marion Co, TN. Does he connect with any of your line that you can see? It was mentioned by my grandmother that her mother, Sarah Kilgore Ferguson, was part Cherokee, but I am having a difficult time learning anything that would prove that.

I have a couple of Williams in my data.
1. William b. abt 1800 s/o Stephen Clayton Kilgore and Rebecca Salyers.
2. William b. bef 1825 s/o Hiram Kilgore and Nancy Layne brother to my gg grandfather John K. Kilgore. It is suspected that John married a Martha Maxwell who had Indian blood, but nothing proven yet. Still working on that.
3. William M. b. June 5, 1769 s/o Robert Kilgore and Winney Clayton, brother of above mentioned Stephen Clayton Kilgore.
Stephen and Robert started out in NC and Hiram then moved to Marion Co. TN. I don't know if any of these Wm's matches yours, you didn't give any dates. Let me know if these connect. and we can work together on that "Indian" blood.

Unfortunately, I cannot see a connection between your and my Kilgores. I can also remember my mother telling me about being part Cherokee. As far as I know, they were from Alaama (Tuscaloosa) and spent most of their life there. I do know that my great-great grandfather was William Kilgore who was borh around the early 1800's, my great grandfather was John Kilgore, married to Jalie Shepherd. He was wounded in the Civil War. My grandfather was Sidny Connor Kilgore, born in 1867 and married to Lola Deason. It certainly sounds like there should be some kind of a connection there. Good luck to you and HAPPY HUNTING. Where in NC did your family move from to Marion County, TN? I'm researching Mathis/Mathews of Marion County, TN. They left there about 1850, finally settling in Chattanooga, Hamilton County, TN.

Thanks,
