The information that I have is minimal. I know that Henry Dewberry married Milly Ann Melissa "Mitty" Childs on 12/15/1870 probably in Randolph or St Clair County, AL. By the 1880 census she is listed as a widow with one child, John Alfred Dewberry (b. 7/18/1877). She stated on a Confederate Widow's Pension (for second husband) that she was separated for two years from Henry before his death in 1878. A great aunt told me that she had always been told that he left Alabama and went to France before the birth of his son. I have no idea is this is true. Any help would be appreciated.

I will look in my information, but it will take a few days. My ggggrandfather, John Dewberry who came to Tallapoosa Co. in 1846, had an uncle Giles Dewberry who came to Randolp Co. around 1835. If I recall correctly, his Uncle Giles had a son named Henry. I will get back to you later after I look. There were also Dewberrys in Talladega and St. Clair counties around this time. Although related to my family line, the distance was much greater and I do not have as much information on them. Let's hope your Henry was Giles' son. If so Henry's grandfather's name was also named Giles, who died in the Battle of Cowpens (Am. Rev.) and his wife Anna moved into northern GA after his death.

I think we share an ancestor. Giles Dewberry from Randolph county had a brother or son named Richard who was my great-great-great grandfather. I can't remeber exactly because there were two Giles' in two generations. Do you happen to have any information on William Marion Dewberry or his wife Jane Francis Loyd. William Marion is the son of Richard Dewberry.

Richard's father was Giles Dewberry of Monroe Co. GA not the Giles Dewberry of Randolph Co. AL but these two Giles were cousins. Let me save you time and share my research with you. Contact me directly: juliehowell@usa.net
