Dear Joan,
I am not a relation of Hamilton Littlefield. However, my friend and I have been trying to do research on him and his family. He was an abolitionist in Oswego and a well known businessman. We have been trying to put the pieces of his life together. It would be wonderful to locate descendents to see if they have additional materials. Are you a relation and do you have information which would assist us? We would be glad to exchange information.

I'm trying to get a closer look at Hamilton Littlefield because my grandparents were in businiess in Oswego at the same time as he. I am a gggdaughter of Richard OLIPHANT, the printer and a ggdaughter of Calvert Mead, the pharmacist. My cousin's mother was named Helen THOMAS LITTLEFIELD MEADE. My Grandfather's middle initial was L. The mystery continues.

Amazing! I did research several year's ago on the history of a family home. Richard Grace Pritchard Oliphant (and several other Oliphants, including a Sarah Oliphant) lived there at the turn of the century. This Richard was the grandson of the first Richard Oliphant who came to Oswego. I knew that the Mead's were somehow related. I corresponded for awhile with their granddaughter. She was interested in the family tree. Do you have an e-mail address where I could write to you?

I am the great-great granddaughter of Hamilton Littlefield of Oswego .The information I have I received through the library in Oswego. It mainly concerned his involvement in the abolitionist movement (of which I am very proud), and business transactions. I know his son (my great grandfather, served in the Civil War,( which according to family reports, may have left him with some (PTSD)had serious financial problems and went back into service, stationed in the South
He then retired to a small far in Ocean County, NJ.
As to Littlefield family history I am more interested in Hamilton Sr.wife, Rhoda Wray,as my mother was named after her/

HI COUSIN!
HAMILTON LITTLEFIELD, THE ABOLITIONIST WAS ALSO MY GREAT-GREAT GRANDFATHER. HAMILTON B., HIS SON,WHO FOUGHT IN THE CIVIL WAR
HIS SON WHO FOUGHT IN THE CIVIL WAR WAS MY GREAT GRANDFATHER. I ALSO BELIEVED THAT MY GREAT-GREAT GRANDMOTHER'S NAME WAS RHODA WRAY.THE WRAYS WERE EVIDENTLY CLOSELY CONNECTED TO THE FAMILY AS HAMILYON B."S BROTHER WAS NAMED WRAY. , BUT I COULD NOT TRACE A RHODA WRAY. RECENTLY I DISCOVERED THAT HER NAME WAS NOT WRAY, BUT COLVER.HAMILTON B. MARRIED LEVANTIA FRANCILIA CLEMENTS OF FORT ANN. SINCE THEY HAD (TO MY KNOWLEDGE) ONLY TWHO SURVIVING CHILDREN, CLMENT , WHO DIED WHEN MY MOTHER, RHODA,WAS A YOUNG CHILD. AND FRANCES, WHO I KNEW AS AUNT FRANK. I ALSO MET MY MOTHER'S TWO COUSINS, ONE OF WHICH I PRESUME WAS YOUR MOTHER.

IF YOU ALSO ARE DESCENDED FROM HAMILTON B. AND FRANCILIA , YOU MAY BE INTERESTED TO KNOW THAT I RECENTLY LEARNED THAT LEVANTIA, THROUGH COPELAND ANCESTRY, IS A DESCENDENT OF JOHN AND PRISCILLA ALDEN !
INCIDENTALLY, I HEAD FROM MY AUNT HATTIE APPLEGATE OFTHMS RIVER THAT THE STORIES OF "HAM"'S PTSD ARE TRUE, BUT THAT THIS WIFE WAS A
STRONG WOMAN WHO KEPT HIM UNDER CONTROL.
