My gg grandfather was born 22 Sep 1847 in the Netherlands. He married Barbara Schindler b 6 Jan 1851 in Austria-Hungary. They had 9 children, Henry, Mary, Ellen, John, Minnie, Julia William, Alma, and Mayme all born in Wisconsin.

I am descended from their oldest daughter Mary who is my great grandmother.

Does anyone have any information about this family?

The person I think is your John Vanderlinden has shown up in several of my searches for my own John Vanderlinden who is also from Holland. they may be related but I haven't found the link yet. Perhaps cousins, or maybe your guy is an uncle of my guy?

Though your dates may be slightly off the rest of the info seems good. I show his birthday as being Jan/1849 and his wife Barbara as Dec/1852. He is listed as born in Holland. She was born in Hungary. On one census it appears she's mistakenly listed as German. In each instance her parents are listed as being from Hungary except one. In 1880 her Father is listed as being from Holland.

John has no set occupation and over a course of 40 years he is listed as a day laborer, a laborer and finally as a man who does odd jobs.

On the 1900 Census they are listed as living at 912 Lake Street in Appleton, Outagamie, WI with the following children:
Minnie Vanderlinden 20
Julia Vanderlinden 17
Willie Vanderlinden 14
Alma Vanderlinden 12

Here is the link to that census:

And here again earlier in the 1880 Census with these children:

Henry Van Derlinden 11
Mary Van Derlinden 8
Maggie Van Derlinden 7
John Van Derlinden 5
Minnie Van Derlinden 1

Here is the link for 1880:

...and again in 1910. Only here they've moved to 867 Jefferson street in the same town. Some of the kids still live with them as listed below:

Minnie H Vanderlinden 28
Alina Vanderlinden 22
William Vanderlinden 24

Here is the link for 1910:

Good luck with your research. Who knows we might even be distant cousins?

If you come across a John Vanderlinden born in Holland circa 1868 married to a Josephine from Belgium born circa 1873 who emigrated to America in 1905 arriving in New York, And then had two children, Elizabeth and Joseph in NY in 1906 & 1908 respectively...well these are my people. They are my GG Grand parents on my Father's side. Let me know if we criss-cross somewhere along the way. Thanks

My father was stationed in Holland (Netherlands) during World War II. He struck up a friendship with a John and Marie Vanderlinden. At the time they would have been approximately 16 or 19 years old. My father is 88 years old and would like to reconnect with this family. He remembers them as a very "loving" family. This would probably have been in the last part of 1944.

I have found the baptismal record for Barbara Schindler who married John Vander Linden on FHL. She was baptized on Jan 7 1852 and I believe was born in Dec 1851 in Ozlop/Oslip, Hungary. Oslip is now located in Austria since 1920 as a result of these countries being changed around after WWI. Her parents are Mathias Schindler and Juliana Wölfinger. I ordered the microfilm and was able to view the original record.

I can certainly poke around, but honestly we should have a little more detail if we want to hope for success. A town name, a street they lived on. Were they a married couple or related?

Hello, My John Vander Linden immigrated to the US before 1869. I have not found any siblings as yet who might have remained in the Netherlands, but it is certainly possible. Still looking. So whether your John Vander Linden is a relative or not is unknown. But I suspect that Vander Linden might be a common name.
