Hi. My McCready line came from Loudoun County, VA in the later 1700's and then moved to Mason and Bracken Counties in Kentucky by about the 1820's or so and on to Illinois in the 1830's. I don't know of any in New York or South Carolina from this family. I wish I could have been of more assistance!!

Hi!
I have two Benjamin Franklin Simmons in my research. One was born 14 Nov 1858 in Marion County, Illinois. He married a Nancy Elizabeth Tinkler. His parents were Isham Thompson Simmons and Gilla Perry Wilhoit. The other was born 22 Sep 1830 in Monroe County, Kentucky. He is the son of John Alf Simmons and Nancy Guffy. Don't know anything else about him at the present. Are either of these two your Benjamin Franklin Simmons?

I have very limited information about my Simmons line.

I know that Benjamin Simmons married Catharine Legg on August 22, 1839 at Shelburne Parish in Loudon County, VA. I believe they had 8 children: Emily Ellen, Effa Ann, Thomas, Susan, Harriett Catharine, William, Lewis D. and Amanda. Lewis D. is my gg grandfather and was born 4/13/1853 in VA and died 4/7/1909 in Frederick, MD. Lewis married Josephine D. Sigler of Burkittsville, MD on December 16, 1873. They had 3 children: Anna Lee (my ggrandmother), Lily Selina, and Theodore. I believe that Lily died as a young child. Josephine died March 5, 1885 and Lewis remarried Ida Painter.

Emily married Tarleton A. Brown, son of George N. and Julia, Feb 3, 1870 in Loundon County, VA.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Your Benjamin Simmons is in the 1850, 1860 and 1870 censues for Loudoun Co. VA. In 1850 he is age 32 (1818) born in VA, Catherine is 30 (1820) b. VA with children Emily 9, Effa 7, Thos P. 5, Susan 3, William 2 months.
In 1860 Southern Dist he is listed as Simons, Benj age 40 (1820) VA, Catherine 44 (1816), Emily 19, Effa Ann 16, Thomas 15, Harriet 12, Lewis D. 10, Amanda 8.
1870 Benjamin Simmons age 50 (1820), Effie 25,Catherine 22, Lewis 18, Amanda 16. Wife and mother Catherine must have died before 1970 so check cemetery indexes for Southern Dist of Loudoun Co. VA and other records for family. 1880 L.D. Simmons is still living in Loudoun Co. VA with wife Josephine with dau Anna Lee and son Theodore.
In 1840 census there is only a Daniel Simmons in Loudoun Co and he is 20/30. But in Cabell Co. there is a William Simmons household with a Mrs. Susan Legg listed below as next head of household, (Benj and Catherine have a daughter Susan in 1850) Also a James Legg is one household below Mrs. Susan Legg. So check both Loudoun and Cabell Counties in VA for your Simmons.
